Change is inevitable, no doubt, but still, we fear it and crave it at the same time.
Possible Causes
We fear change when we don’t understand it, when the reason, value and purpose are obscure. When is forced upon us, we simply react. When it impacts our priorities.
Examples like these;
Contribute to the way we accept and perceive change.
At work
How many times we have received that email, that video, that message from a town-all informing about a big change that requires everyone's help, promising great things, laying down utopic objectives? Causing everyone to have their interpretation of what needs to be done, feeding confusion and ultimately fear of change.
Personal Life
Our state of mind come into play when it comes to priorities. New year resolutions are like a sugar rush, an initial burst of excitement that ends up in a short crash. Leaving undecided ideas and decisions floating for the next 365 days.
Environmental
We are what we eat, and where we live, our beliefs do impact our decisions.
The Novelty-Seeking Behavior – The Main Reason You Are Easily Bored
Probably since the beginning of our journey on this planet, we crave change and novelty. What’s beyond that tree, that lake, that mountain? We adapt ourselves to walk great distances to know what lurks ahead.
We want a stable and predictable way of life, but novelty-seeking kicks in and we get bored, looking for the new next thing.
So what can be done to embrace change
At work – Preparing for change is a must. Proactively seeking answers and asking questions, reading about how change makes us feel can help, seeking professional help or simply sharing your concerns with a friend makes a huge difference.
Personal life – Take the time to know yourself better, knowing how to control your emotions is a great ally in your toolkit
Environmental – Change things around your house, take a different route while driving, move to another house, keep things tidy, get to know your neighbours for example, diversify your diet, and try different things. Go out there, and know your environment to avoid surprises.
Change! You can either accept it or reject it, either way it can make you grow or stop you.
