Change is hard, change takes time.?
When you read this, what do you think?
What do you believe?
Depending how you answer this, could be why you haven’t changed things, you know the one thing you have been thinking, if only I could change that, life would be better.?
The truth is, this is an urban myth, this is untrue, change can be fast and last, all it needs is willingness to change and believe it is possible for you.
I worked with a client recently who believed that the change was going to take a long time, perhaps it wouldn’t happen to her.?
What I asked her to do was to find three people, either people who she knew or people in history that had what could be called a difficult start to life, yet achieved great things.
What’s different is that these people really achieved great things in their life because of what they believed was possible for them.?
What she realised was that they had actually created change in their own life to move away from the unresourceful star that had in life and create a life that they wanted.?
Just by doing this one exercise my client quickly realised the change can happen quickly and for anyone. One thing that she struggled with was what change she wanted in her life.
And here’s why.
Most clients are able to tell us what it was is that they want to move away from, however when we ask them what it is that they would rather have in their life this is why they get stuck.?
It’s sometimes hard to think about what you would rather have because so much energy is being spent on what it is that you wanting to get rid of and move away from.?
So here’s something that’s going to help you instantly.
Just spend some time really creating a movie of what you would like you future self to be like. Climb into the movie and see it through your own eyes, noticing what you notice in this short movie of your future life.
Ensure that you can hear an external soundtrack, plus what’s you internal dialogue??
And more importantly the last component is - how does all this make you feel?
What we are doing here is creating what we call a future memory and giving the powerful part of your neurology the detailed information of what this future memory will look like. This is really powerful, because what we are using is the language of the brain. You’re imagining seeing something, you are imagining hearing something and you are imagining what your internal dialogue will be and all of this drives a certain feeling.?
Most people do this without realising.
Think about people that create anxiety. What happens is they create a future movie they imagine seeing things, hearing things, they’ll have an internal dialogue and all of this will make them feel anxious. Anxiety is an emotion of the future, therefore nothing has happened yet, nothing is real, yet it feels real on the body.?
Doing the simple exercise and focusing on what it is you do want rather than what you don’t want is really powerful and and allows your unconscious mind to really grasp what it is that you wanting to attract into your future.
Let me share with you an extract from an email that the client sent to me just yesterday:
“It was been a while since I have been in touch with you. A little update on myself, I finished studying at University in 2019 where I graduated with a Bachelor of Teaching.?
With the skills you enriched me with, I was able to complete university and move out of home. I remember you worked with me to play a mind movie of myself walking across the stage and receiving my degree. It was a pretty cool feeling when this played out in real life.”
Change can be fast and change can last. All you need to do is believe it to be true. Just doing the simple exercise will allow you to feel different about your future.
