Change Got You Feeling A Bit Like Dorothy?

Have you ever felt adrift, unsure of who you are or what comes next? Transitions—whether leaving a career, becoming an empty nester, or simply adjusting to a new phase of life—can feel overwhelming.
The loss of familiar routines often leaves you feeling like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz: uncertain, searching, and yearning for something more. But life transitions also hold the potential for growth and rediscovery.
Transitions uproot not just your day-to-day structure but also your sense of identity and purpose. When familiar patterns dissolve, it’s natural to feel unmoored. However, these moments can also serve as a powerful reset, giving you the chance to redefine who you are and what truly matters in this new phase of life.
In my latest blog, I explore:
When you understand how your mind works and take small, actionable steps, you can transform transitions into opportunities for growth. Remember, every change is a chance to rediscover yourself, reimagine your future, and build a fulfilling life.

P.S. I've been sending my email list my new newsletter "Retirement Reimagined Journal" where I offer insights and inspiration for designing and stepping into a new chapter and lifestyle. But, just for fun, I've added a section that is written from my Bouvier, Alli's perspective (called Alli's Pawspective). I thought I'd share her latest. It's worth getting on the list because you just never know what she'll have to say. I'll drop the link in the comments.
Life Lessons and Laughter from a Bouvier’s Point of View
Hi everyone! It’s me, Alli—the Bouvier who keeps things running around here (literally). Last week, I made the decision to take over this section because, honestly, it was a big "paws down" on letting her control the keyboard without my input that first week. I mean, really, how does she know how a Bouvier thinks and feels?
It's official. From now on, I’m keeping control of the keyboard because I’ve got things to say!

This week, we’re talking about navigating life’s transitions, and let me tell you, I’ve seen it firsthand. When “she” left her career, she was...well, let’s just say, a little out of sorts. I wasn’t around back then, but Kaya and Jacmel (two of the Bouviers before me) filled me in on the chaos.
One thing they said really helped was having a solid routine. She didn’t have one when they were living out of boxes, and I guess that’s why things got a bit crazy. But now? She’s got it figured out. Thank goodness, because I’ve seen what happens when she feels like things are completely out of control—and trust me, it’s not pretty.
Here’s how we tackle every day as a team:
Morning Walk: Me, Savannah, her, and the other hooman (my dogdad) all hit the neighborhood together. It’s our time to connect, clear our heads, and set the tone for the day.
Breakfast: This is non-negotiable. Nutrition and a full belly? Essential. And it better be good—no shortcuts allowed! (And, if you're a coffee-only kind of gal, you should have a conversation with her. Your body needs more than that to set your day up for success. Just like a Bouvier! Except we don't drink coffee.)
Agility Day (Wednesdays): Here’s where we shine. Running the course isn’t just exercise; it’s focus, partnership, and being fully present. Honestly, I’ve been having some health issues lately, so Savannah has been holding down the fort during agility training. But don’t worry—I’ll be back soon, and she’ll have to figure out how to keep up with me once again!
Transitions can feel overwhelming, but routines like ours make it easier to adapt.
And did you know about neuroplasticity? She talks about it all the time—it means your brain can adapt to change at any age. Building routines is one way to help your brain embrace change—whether you’re a hooman or a Bouvier.
So if you’re feeling stuck, take it from me: Start with a simple routine, lean into change, and take life one paw (or step) at a time. You’ve got this!
See you next week—same pawspective, same quirky charm!
