A change is as good as a rest, right?

A change is as good as a rest, right?

Well Billy Joe woke up, September officially ended, and with it came a big change for me. Whether it was inspiration from the CAPSLOCK career changers, or a once in a lifetime opportunity to work with the amazing Eliza-May Austin , I listened to my own advice and left a 20 year career in recruitment to join th4ts3cur1ty.company as Head of Strategic Solutions. As ever, I wanted to share some lessons learnt along the way.

If you're suffering from exciety (a mix of excitement and anxiety - Thanks for the phrase James Riley ) that's likely a good thing. I knew when I was starting to fall out of love with recruitment that it was time to think about a move. Recruitment isn't a job you can half arse, and the stars definitely aligned.

Eliza's post for a magical genie, was recruitment marketing done right.

It wasn't a wishy washy job advert, or a re-posted job description, it was a list of problems that needed solving. I was happily working in recruitment, in my own busines, however Eliza and I have known each other for a long time, mainly through BSides conferences and Ladies Hacking Society events, hence me seeing the post. I actually recommended some people to Eliza for her position initially.

But Eliza's advert spoke to me, and everything she was looking for described me to a tee. It was a couple of months later we spoke, and as soon as I expressed an interest, we scheduled a call with Stephen Ridgway and Eliza.

We were both very honest on the call, about the flaws and strengths of the role and my skills, and within 30 minutes of ending the call, I was offered the position, with no pressure to start straight away.

So what can we learn about this?

  • Great job adverts will attract passive candidates. A job advert is very different to a job description - a job advert should attract people to you and should sell the role.
  • Great networks will mean you build connections with future employers and employees
  • A recruitment process doesn't need to be 3-4 interview stages
  • Honesty builds connection Th4ts3cur1ty.company has an amazing culture. Eliza is authentically herself, and as awesome as you would expect. Stephen came onto the call like a wise Gandalf smoking a pipe . They would not be everyone's cup of tea, but that's what makes th4ts3cur1ty.company so unique and so great.

Every single person who works here, is authentically themselves. Whether it's a weekly coffee moan-ing with funny rants about supermarket self check outs, or a Friday end of week highlight session with a glass of wine, every single person is awesome in their own right within this business, but has the freedom to be real and challenge each other professionally.

So enough gushing about my new employer, and time to get real. With my recruitment career ending, this newsletter will be changing tack slightly too.

Instead of being The Recruitment Inside Scoop, this will become th4t s3cur1ty Inside Scoop. We will bring you monthly security advice, with some realism about security. The Th4ts3cur1ty.company ethos is no nonsense, just defence, so we will bring you real tips and tricks that you can implement in your business and home life.

Hopefully you'll stay around for the updated newsletter, but if not, it's been lovely to share my journey.

Peace and Love

Rosie

This is a great post, Rosie! I have been following th4ts3cur1ty.company PocketSIEM and Eliza-May Austin on LinkedIn, and I am impressed by their work and culture. Eliza-May seems to be a caring and supportive leader who fosters innovation and excellence in her team. It would be a dream come true to work for such a brand as an aspiring penetration tester. One month post CAPSLOCK I hope to find a place where I can learn from the best and grow my skills and passion in this field.

cant wait to read more ??
