t had been raining heavily ,winter rain ,not the summer one one . Yes I recall since 23 hrs last night how the drizzle turned into rain ..!At 3:15 my eyes opened because of the gust of wind, gushing the shed, hitting against the roof
I woke up at 5 and as I was walking with tea to my room,mother asked me to stop and urged me to sit with her for a while She said something which got me to thinking , ” Do you know how difficult this moment must it be for someone who gets paid on daily basis … .” I was quite appalled that there are people living like that, yet I snapped that ‘oh mom i’m sure they must have some kind of savings’ Well,she said ” the poorest section of society ,which unfortunately isn’t a small number,lives literally hand to mouth on daily basis, and borrowing money is mostly not an option” It broke my heart. I felt this wave of melancholy , instantly the Waow it’s raining disappeared .She explained to me how that’s why saving money is crucial, how keeping some leave in your kitty till the end of year is vital..! Instead of defending myself, I tried to understand
Many of us millennials, love to shop, stay in luxury houses and thus ,barely have any savings by the end of the month …! Furthermore ,this whole nonsense feels okay because it has become a part of the culture..! However ,when I was in corporate , I did save some , but both of my dearest friends didn’t, rather they said they couldn’t..!
I feel that it is fundamental to bring into our young ones or friend circle ,the value to save , be it money or office leave .To not try to do buy shit to impress our peers , to not live in luxury houses because that is the needed ‘standard’…! It’s time we laud a culture of hardwork , of sacrifices , of the grind ….not the final lucrative shit ,! Everyone wants to flex! not everyone but most .
The conversations are about –‘She dresses lavishly good or this shit..‘his house is in this ‘posh colony..‘ that his whip is better than the most ..! All dumbshit !
Why isn’t anyone appreciating the one who is staying in a sharing house ,in a not so posh colony ,the one doing OT ,the one sending money to his parents from the same salary from which other fakers say they couldn’t save because ‘my expenses due to my living standard are so high, I can’t save ” B.S. .Additionally,they actually take it as a status symbol! We build our own jails and then we suffer in those! It’s time we change the conversation .
I’ve seen so many feeling that they don’t belong anywhere because their peers are flexing on Instagram! in the name of yolo! And it gets funnier when I see the same mindset prevail in parents! Breaks my heart! In indian society a lot of marriages fall apart. Despite a 7 yr committed relationship the couple called it quits because the groom’s family manipulated his mind with- ‘status symbol’ don’t match! So yes , this is an austere concern as it further raises mental health issues! I’d love to cover this in another article !
