Change as a Constant: Reflections from Two Decades in Business
Change is the only constant in today's fast-paced world. Whether we like it or not, we're all in the business of change. As our company marks its 20th anniversary, I want to share insights that can help entrepreneurs, whether seasoned or just starting.
Our journey from a home-based startup to a leading Language Service Provider (LSP) has taught us valuable lessons. Starting small and young was an advantage. It meant a fast and independent journey, free from old baggage that could slow us down.
Early on, we realized the importance of building trust with clients and partners. Focusing on delivering high-quality services and nurturing lasting relationships has been crucial. Our commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction has driven our growth. However the path to becoming a leading LSP involved significant milestones. We invested in technology and innovation to improve our services, alongside attracting top-notch professionals to strengthen our team.?
A decade ago, we were driven by the People - Process - Technologies mantra. Looking back at what has changed over the last ten years, a key learning for us – the impact of people and teamwork is more significant than processes or technology. Our experience reinforces the truth that having the right people in the right roles resolves most of the issues related to processes and technology. We acknowledge the consequences of situations with the wrong people in the wrong positions, causing serious setbacks to the company's development. The proverb holds: 'If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go as a team.' Transitioning from a leader-centric or founder-centric to a team-oriented leadership style was challenging but necessary. Shifting to a team-oriented leadership involved more delegation, empowering our team, and intensified development efforts. And that leads to real leadership, which involves empowering others to become leaders, not just followers. Creating a company management team was crucial for fostering long-term growth, reflecting a leadership philosophy that encourages others to take the lead instead of following.
The main takeaway from this growth phase is that a leader's role evolves as a company expands. Building a winning team requires a mindset shift. Leaders must transition from micromanagement to competent leaders. This involves crafting cohesive teams and fostering a company culture grounded in trust, respect, competencies, integrity, innovation, collaboration, talent development, mutual support, constructive feedback, and even constructive conflicts.

These 'soft skills' and values, integral to our people-centric company, are the crux of our entrepreneurial journey. We're all in the business of change, regardless of industry. As entrepreneurs, we must anticipate change before it's necessary and focus on enduring values. Looking ahead, I encourage fellow entrepreneurs to embrace change and the power of teamwork for long-term success. Remember, what got you here won't get you there. Dare to lead and exemplify change.
As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, we are proud of our achievements and excited about the opportunities ahead. We remain committed to our values and delivering exceptional services to our clients. Here's to the next 20 years of change, growth, and collaborative success! ????
