CHANGE IS COMING TO PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE
No matter which private health insurer you’re with, the Australian government is introducing changes that may impact you from next year.
The government wants to make it easier for people to compare health insurance policies and know exactly what they are covered for. They’re introducing a simplified system to categorise policies with Gold, Silver, Bronze and Basic levels – each of which are designed to offer the same minimum benefits, regardless of the insurer. As well, all policies will use the same standard definitions for medical procedures - making them easier to understand.
What this means is some of these policies will have services added, and some of these will have services removed. The government has already decided that people can no longer claim some natural therapies from private health insurance for example, with this change coming into effect from April 1.
We've already starting letting our customers know about these changes, and early next year will be contacting them about the new product categories, to help ensure they have all the information they need to get the health cover that’s right for them and their family. In the meantime, find out more about these changes here. <https://www.medibank.com.au/health-insurance/understanding-health-insurance/changes/>.

5 年You recently sent me an email stating" In order to keep premium increases as low as possible, we will reduce what we pay NSW public hospitals by paying NSW a similar rate to what we pay in other states from 1 November 2019. This means if you choose to be a private patient in a NSW public hospital and are assigned a private room, you may be charged an out-of-pocket expense by the hospital." ?I only belong to private health insurance to get a private room. Now any other patients who have private cover from another provider who pays more will obviously get preference over me. Can you tell me which other private insurers provide more please so I can consider changing my provider. (incidently, this is probably one of the most stupid business decisions you could have made) Best Regards David Fowler
