Change comes to Washington ... and to Fintech C-suites

The inauguration of President-elect Donald J. Trump is only days away, but the United States is not the only entity that is making a major leadership shift. While a new year is often a time for making big changes, it seems as if the beginning of 2025 has brought more than the average share of C-suite shifts in fintech and financial services.

There are new CEOs at paytech Opus Technologies, CUSO Member Driven Technologies (MDT), R&T Deposit Solutions, Finastra and Curinos, Unit4, Solifi, and DBS Bank India. New COOs are at (or coming to) JP Morgan Chase, Truist, and Orion. Boost Payment Solutions has a new CTO. German paytech Unzer has a new CFO. And its only the middle of January.

There's something exhilarating about change and the potential it brings for new ideas and new opportunities. It will be interesting to see how each of these new leaders manages their role and attempts to guide their organizations toward greater success.

Pause button: When America Got Physical

As someone who spends more time in the gym than is probably necessary, I have a tendency to forget that there was a time not that long ago when the average person not only did not belong to a gym, but also tended to assume that there was something wrong with those who did.

That time, according to an interesting feature in The New York Times this week, ended in the early 1970s as Americans slowly then all at once embarked upon a decade of finding their fitness.

The NYT feature, "The Decade That Changed Fitness Forever," is a fun and fascinating look back at an underappreciated cultural shift between 1972 and 1982. Bookended by Title IX and the Jane Fonda Workout, this period represented a transition away from more esoteric approaches to self-improvement (including an embrace of psychedelics) to more physically-oriented strategies ranging from jogging and bodybuilding to yoga and jazzercise.

Finovate Podcast: Neobanks, Fintech in 2025, and a FinovateEurope Preview with Revolut's Rory Tanner

Rory Tanner , Head of U.K. Government Affairs and Public Policy at Revolut , sits down with Finovate VP and host of the Finovate Podcast Greg Palmer to talk about neobanks, Tanner's thoughts on fintech in 2025, as well as a preview of our upcoming FinovateEurope conference in London, February 25 through 26.

"I lead our U.K. engagement with government, parliament, and industry, looking to achieve positive policy regulation and business outcomes, and managing those relationships with ministers, with civil servants, and key regulators. The other part (of what I do) is public policy, looking at these future issues, whether it be legislation, regulation, and looking to shape those to support Revolut's business opportunities."

Tanner will participate in our special Power Panel on neobanks at FinovateEurope 2025. The session is titled "Neo banks 3.0 — as neo banks continue to make inroads into the market of big banks, what's next for them?".
