Change Agent? It's Time to Sprint
Years to months. Month to weeks. Weeks to days.
To help humanity think through some of its current issues, it may be beneficial to think in terms of months not years. Three Horizons Mapping helps measure change as it is evolving. We want to consider our future, not according to some marketing-friendly timeframe like 2030, but based on how the change in the domain is actually occurring. Yet, when it comes to generative AI, it is my bet that most of us are still working on the hidden assumption that the Horizons represent years of development.
I propose we rethink that assumption. Use the Horizons as markers of change. In the generative AI space, change takes place quickly.?H3 could be months away, H2? Weeks. Thus, our discussions, futures wheels, and resulting pilots and experiments should keep this top of mind. Don't worry, we have had practice with this.
During the height of the Covid-19 crisis, we knew that there were decisions that needed to be made to the best of our ability with limited information. We knew our overarching goal-- nothing short of the survival of our economies and the human race. We worked together, we worked smart, we considered the possible alternative futures and we made choices designed to lead us to our preferred future. A future in which a minimal number of individuals became sick and if possible, an even smaller number of them died.?All things considered, you could say collectively, we did a pretty good job.
Change agents, it's time to sprint again! Spread the word.
UPDATE: Amy Webb did a fantastic job at this year's SXSW explaining the changing landscape. Highly recommended viewing. Thanks, @AmyWebb!
