The?Chanel-sponsored Academy Museum of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Women’s Luncheon in?Los Angeles?had a new sense of urgency on Wednesday when Iranian-born actress and activist Nazanin Boniadi took the stage in front of the Hollywood women’s filmmaking community to speak about the fight for women’s rights in her native country.

The “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” and “Homeland” star’s voice broke when describing the recent deadly protests against the Islamic Republic and its religious morality police.

“Woman, life, freedom. For two months, that’s been the battle cry in what has become the first female-led revolution of our time,” said Boniadi. “Women have taken to the streets and are not only removing and waving their headscarves but setting them ablaze and cutting their hair in protest. Despite the threats of being beaten, raped, imprisoned or even killed, school girls are removing their mandatory head coverings…”

Jaden Smith On Designing Clothes, Batman, and Being a Pioneer?

Jaden Smith has long been interested in fashion and grew up feeling uninspired by the selection offered to him. Mainly, “I couldn’t find any skirts for dudes that were really dope,” he says.

The solution, naturally, was to create his own line.?MSFTS was launched some 10 years ago (yes, when he was 14) and aims to offer skirts for dudes but also “educational, informational content on clothes,” and clothing that “was specifically trying to evolve humanity into a future version of humanity.”



Smith, who draws inspiration from ancient Egypt and Batman and loves being a "pioneer" in the men-in-skirts space explained his vision to WWD.

Wall Street Digests Tom Ford?Deal

Wall Street has digested the news that?the Estée Lauder Cos. is acquiring the?Tom Ford?brand and investors appear to be taking it in stride.

After months of speculation, the beauty giant announced Tuesday after the market closed that it has agreed to acquire?Tom Ford?in a transaction valuing the brand at $2.8 billion.

Pierre Cardin Looking to Young Designers for a?Boost

The designer company staged a fashion show Wednesday at the Consulate General of France in New York City to celebrate the winner of the?Pierre Cardin?Young Designers Contest. Hundreds had initially offered submissions for the competition, which was held in honor of the centenary of Cardin’s birth. Organizers decided on 10 finalists, who participated in a showdown to reimagine the futuristic vision of the designer, whose 70-year career spanned a slew of categories.

Participants weren’t asked to rehash the past — and to highlight the here-and-now, glimpses of select looks from the “Cent”?haute couture?show held in Venice, Italy, in July, and?the “Cosmocorps 3022” collection from January of this year were shown to attendees at Wednesday night’s event.??
