CHANDRAYAAN-3 – India lights up the dark side of the moon !!!

What is Chandrayaan-3?

If translated in straight Sanskrit “Chandrayaan” means “moon vehicle”.? On 23rd August after a nail-biting wait of close to two weeks, ISRO confirmed that Chandrayaan-3’s lander had successfully touched down in the Moon’s southern polar region as planned.

This achievement has not only made India proud, but it also opened up a wave of opportunities for several sectors that could boost India’s economic growth, bringing the country closer to its dream of becoming the third-largest growth economy in the world.?? The success of Chandrayaan-3 is likely to reflect not just on domestic economy, but it will bring about a change in perception of foreign investors towards India’s capability in space research and effectiveness of various initiatives.?

It has opened up several opportunities for many start-ups / MSME’s and Indian conglomerates who manufacture / market their products in various sectors such as space technology, aerospace, defense, Engineering technology applications and R&D.? India already has close to (approx.) 150 registered space-technology and engineering start-ups?and this successful lunar mission is likely to provide a massive boost to each one of them.

It will benefit the industry in a way that it promotes the cost-efficient and practically proven space-grade hardware/ software that the Indian space industry has supplied for this mission.? ?

This event has various positive impacts to India and its economy.? Let us take a look at few of them !!!

A boost to ‘Make in India’ initiative

While it may not necessarily be a 100% direct co-relation, but Chandrayaan’s? success will certainly “rub-off” positively on our own ‘Make in India’ ?initiative and contribute to the growth of home-grown brand / companies involved in developing satellite systems, telecommunications, aerospace technology and allied industries.

Influence Geo-political relationships

This successful lunar mission will enhance its standing in international space affairs and contribute to its efforts to be seen as a major contributor on the global stage.? And potentially it will help to bolster India’s image in the geopolitical dynamics within the space community Globally.

Scientific international collaboration

This success, it will potentially lead to increased collaboration between Indian space agencies and Western space agencies like NASA and ESA (European Space Agency). Further, scientific data and findings from this mission could contribute to global lunar research efforts jointly in the future.

Domestic share market

This is already reflected in the share prices of many a organization's who are suppliers of hardware / software / Engineering parts and technology to Chandrayaan-3.? The share prices of some of these companies have seen positive uptake in volume consistently last two weeks

?

Recognition and respect in International market

Successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the moon, has showcased India’s advancement in space technology and engineering capabilities.? It will lead to increased recognition for India’s future space programs.

?

Opportunities for investments & pooling of resources

This achievement will help to intensify the competition in space exploration especially amongst countries with lunar ambitions and investment appetite such as USA/ Russia and China.? It will open doors for smaller nations to pool resources together and carry out joint mission/assignments in space curriculum?

?

Wider educational impact creating talent

Typically a success of this magnitude, inspires a huge interest in the young minds to pursue their careers in this field of space research & innovation and exploration creating a greater pool of doctors and scientists over next decade in India.? ?

CONCLUDING

The moon is considered a gateway to the next phase of space exploration and in-space economy. ???As investments in the space industries are soaring year by year, countries with similar capabilities have more opportunities for global investments.?? In the light of this, much of India’s foreign policies / relationship building exercise in the last decade, is a testimony of the balancing act between Washington and Moscow handled so delicately and efficiently by Mr Modi Govt.??

?Personally, I feel this success has shocked (I may use a word disappointed !) some of the western world countries who think that India is still a poor country and one who should invest in building toilets, instead of spending money on Space Research Programs? !!!??? As one eminent Indian industrialist said recently, “ initiatives like space programs help restore pride and self-confidence and create belief in our progress through science”? Well said Sir !!

Let me know what do you think?
