"It is a chance to be part of something bigger than myself and create positive change in the world"

Hello! My name is Amania Hassan, and I am a Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner at BLGC.?

I have recently completed a?Child and Young Persons Psychological Wellbeing Practice Postgraduate Diploma.?

What do I do??

I deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people in schools and colleges. I work with children and young people that need mild to moderate support with their mental health, this includes children and young people struggling with anxiety and low mood.

The goal for working in educational settings is to ensure children and young people have the necessary support to thrive academically and emotionally. I work alongside education staff to create a safe and supportive environment.?Being a Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner allows me to use my skills to help others on their journey towards better mental health. Education and mental health go hand in hand!?

Why do I do this role??

I chose to work in mental health after struggling with my own mental health when I was younger, the role is a highly rewarding role where I?can?make a positive impact on children and young?people’s?lives. I?can?support children and young people to navigate their challenges, provide support and promote overall wellbeing. Early intervention and prevention play a crucial role in identifying potential issues early on, which can prevent them from escalating in the future. By intervening?early,?we promote positive development and resilience.?

Why do I work at BLGC??

Working at BLGC gives me the opportunity to give back and make a positive impact on the community. One of BLGC’s values?is ‘empower’ we enable people to be the best they can be. Working alongside others at BLGC provides the opportunity to?collaborate with?like-minded individuals who are also passionate about making a difference. It is a chance to be part of something bigger than myself and create positive change in the world.?

What do we mean by mental health??

Mental health is a state of mental wellbeing. When we talk about mental health, we are referring to our emotional,?psychological,?and social wellbeing. Mental health is important at every stage of life and can impact our overall wellbeing. Taking care of our mental health involves understanding our emotions, finding ways to cope with stress and seeking support when needed.?It is?all about finding that balance and taking care of our minds, just like we take care of our bodies!?

Why is looking after our mental health so important??

Just like we take care of our physical health,?it is?important to give attention to our mental wellbeing too! Our mental health affects every aspect of our lives, when we prioritise our mental?wellbeing,?we?can?maintain a positive outlook on life. When we feel mentally?healthy,?we?can experience greater joy and navigate challenges with a positive mindset.?

How do I look after my own mental health??

To look after my own mental health I prioritise self-care, I take time for activities I enjoy such as spending time with my family and friends. Social connections are important for our mental health. I like to stay active because staying active boosts your mood and reduces stress.?

Remember... everyone’s journey is different, its important to find what works best for you. Take small steps and be kind to yourself along the way!
