Champion techniques to conquer self-doubt

Champion techniques to conquer self-doubt

Recently, I've been challenged by a certain four-legged, furry toddler called Whiskey (gratuitous photo op ??). Now, don't get me wrong, I love this new addition beyond measure, but he has challenged my patience and belief system more than any other dog before him.

Things that I had mastered with my other dogs meant nothing up against this clever, mischievous canine. His name suits him 100% and doses should be taken with caution! And what are the consequence of these persistent challenges - of facing the fact that I had to relearn what I thought I was in control of?

Self-doubt.

When you can't course-correct quickly and the knocks keep coming in rapid fashion (did I mention he's an enthusiastic chewer ????), that self-doubt can take root and grow - which is exactly the opposite of what you need to move forward.

The mischief maker!

Champions like Michael Phelps, Novak Djokovic, Katie Ledecky, Leon Marchand and other elite athletes who use a pre-performance routine (PPR's) such as set diets, mental health routines and visualization can achieve up to 31% improvement in performance. (Psychiatrist.com, June 2024).

My point is that we all have off days - weeks even. Some are bigger than others. Take Olympic athletes for example; their off days could cost them a chance at Olympic dreams and also future sponsors and/or careers in professional sports. So, it's no surprise to know that so many elite athletes, and now CEO's and business leaders, have turned to visualization and other regimes to prop-up their mental health and manage self-doubt. Why? Because these techniques work. And the same is true of preparing for any important conversation or negotiation. So join me today as I take you through my five road-tested techniques for tackling self-doubt and maintaining forward motion - just like the pros!
