Champion Better Aging: A Call to Collaborate and Share Your Expertise

What if your insights could change the way people experience aging?

It has been an amazing journey visiting senior living communities as a singer, chatting with activity professionals, and hearing stories from family and friends of residents in assisted living and memory care. As a writer, I am captivated by these conversations. Why? Because each story reveals unique insights and lessons about life, resilience, and aging. Want to know one truth I have discovered?

"Every day presents a wonderful opportunity to enrich the lives of older adults and help them thrive."

With around 10,000 people in the United States turning 65 every day, the ranks of older adults continue to grow rapidly. In my niche—empowering people to age well through music, words, and connection—I believe the journey of aging can be beautifully enriched. How? By adding your voice.

This article is a call to action for subject matter experts and senior well-being advocates to come together and share their insights so that, collectively, we can champion better aging for everyone.

Imagine how much we could learn by bringing together diverse voices in the senior space. Imagine each expert contributing their unique expertise to empower caregivers, aging adults, families, and others who support them.

The journey to enriching the lives of older adults begins with the willingness to share your expertise.

The Power of Storytelling in Aging

The insights that experts hold—whether from years as an activity professional, physician, health and wellness consultant, senior services provider, or other fields—are invaluable. But unless we capture and share these perspectives, much of this knowledge remains limited to those who directly experience it. Sharing expertise through the written word is one of the most powerful ways to pass down this wisdom. It can provide both inspiration and practical guidance that might otherwise be out of reach.

Documenting this knowledge and publishing it through outlets like LinkedIn, magazine articles, and books allows us to build a bridge for seamless knowledge transfer. Few things are more rewarding than helping families and professionals in senior services access real-life stories and solutions that offer practical advice, hope, and support.

Collaborative Partnerships: Writers and Experts Unite

When writers and experts come together, the result is often greater than the sum of its parts. As a writer, my role is to give voice to the expert’s experience, helping it reach those who can benefit from it most. This partnership not only amplifies an expert’s impact but also creates resources that are accessible, engaging, and far-reaching.

For over 10 years, I have worked closely with experts to share their knowledge by writing books. Collaborating on these projects has shown me the incredible value of working together to create messages that can change lives. I have also seen how collaboration can spark fresh perspectives and creative solutions that might not emerge in isolation.

Where do experts like you on a subject begin?

There are three ways you can explore sharing your voice using the written word.

1. LinkedIn posts and articles

The easiest entry to sharing your voice is to connect with other LinkedIn professionals in your niche or complementing industries. Let them know you are interested in sharing quotes for their posts and articles.

2. Trade and consumer magazines

If you are looking to share your expertise far and wide, do it by being a subject matter expert for articles published in trade and consumer magazines. Not only do you significantly ramp up your credibility as an expert, it is free publicity for your brand.

3. Write books (print/ebooks)

Writing books can be a powerful way to make your insights available to those who need it most, establishing you as a trusted resource in your field. I have written a lot of posts and articles on this subject on LinkedIn. If you are serious about adding your voice to support seniors, become an author.

Collaborative partnerships are a smart and an expeditious way to achieve the goal of sharing your story. Put a check mark on this bucket list item for 2025!

A Call to Action: Let’s Champion Better Aging Together

This article is an invitation—a call to experts in diverse fields to come forward and share their insights on aging by using the power of the written word.

I am actively reaching out on LinkedIn to connect with individuals in various expertise niches. Whether you would like to contribute some quotes for a LinkedIn post or article, be a subject matter expert for a magazine article I write, or explore writing a book, together, we can create valuable resources for better aging, accessible to anyone who needs them.

Champion Better Aging, One Story at a Time

To wrap-up, I would like to thank those who are already making strides in improving lives as we age. Your work is vital, and your insights have the power to inspire and help others thrive. By sharing our knowledge and learning from each other, we can create a world where aging is not just inevitable but something to embrace.

Let’s work together to make better aging a shared, achievable goal.

Advice for aging: Keep moving-don't sit still. Keep away from the healthcare industry (doctors, dentists, etc) as much as possible-they want to sell you pills, imaging, surgeries. Most you probably can do without. Stay positive and trust in God. ??

Marlene Rossouw (Van Wyk) - thanks SO much for sharing today! It's an exciting time ahead. I look forward to meeting some really interesting people. I'm sure Cathy Cassata (prolific writer) would agree; it's the people that make what we do as writers a delight. Hope you have a good week ahead!
