The #HVAC industry is evolving very fast, and it is a necessity to understand the challenges that are evidenced, preventing and anticipating the impact they can generate in the short, medium, and long term.
We highlight 3 of the various challenges that are evident for this year:
1. Challenge at the level of technological training:
It is evident that due to the accelerated pace at which #technology advances, which is not alien to the HVAC industry, it is a struggle to keep up with the constant updating of our software’s and connectivity.
Today our systems can be easily monitored, automated, and supervised remotely. According to experts who have studied this issue of upgrading, at least 30% of those of us currently engaged in HVAC are going to have to relearn about the new technologies and requirements that are being demanded, which of course contributes to our continuous training challenge.
2. Understand, master, and adapt to new market concepts and services:A new concept being applied by Hospitals I called "resilient hospital"; which uses technology to treat patients remotely as much as possible. And for the one’s that do need to go to the hospital, they will experience a hospital philosophy geared to make their stay as pleasant as possible. The new changes will be reflected in the architecture, conditioning of the space, air quality, green spaces, and of course a very friendly and proactive staff attitude. Hospitals will also try to deal more on preventive medicine that reactive, which again is trying to maximize the quality of life and space for the patients.
This of course opens up new challenges and opportunities for the HVAC designers and contractors that will need to design systems that blend in with the new open spaces, and that will need to provide clean and renovated conditioned air.

3. Changes in the global energy matrix:
In 2020 the global energy matrix indicated that 86% of energy was generated with fossil fuels, but by 2050 it is expected that 70% of that energy will be obtained from renewable sources. This places a higher demand on HVAC efficiency, being that HVAC equipment demands an average of 70% of the building’s energy consumption. And a demand on better designed systems that will provide “energy efficient - cost effective” installations and results.
