What I feel as a researcher is mentioned in this article. I honestly feel that our inventors are really creative, innovative and can give solutions to the burning research problems in our country. We can even see a trend in emerging young researchers in school level who compete many national and international level competitions thanks to the science popularization projects of professional bodies like National Science Foundation, Sri Lanka Association for Advancement of Science, Sri Lanka Inventors Commission etc. But to go forward as researchers/ innovators I think that they lack three areas when trying to promote their product. Basically, they lack attention, guidance and support from the relevant parties.
Here what I meant is the ability to gain the attention of suitable parties for various stages of innovation from the design to product development. Sometimes there is less guidance from the teacher or the supervisor. Few innovators go further to get the needed support from the industry by running the extra mile. The current system also can help them by creating more social awareness through various projects, workshops, campaigns, talks, conferences etc. apart from the existing ones.
You can get the help from the professional bodies too. But as a researcher/ innovator first, you need to know the process of commercialization from scratch by doing your own self-study. Most of the time, it is a tedious task/journey with lot of time consumption, energy and money.?But the main thing is that you should have a clear intention or plan of what you are doing and hang on to it amidst of the obstacles for the betterment of the society from your invention.
