The challenges of incoming goods inspection and certification
In the third part of this mini-series, we introduce you to the incoming goods inspection
The incoming goods inspection is divided into two areas: In the first area, mainly castings are inspected, in the second area finished parts. In both areas, the suppliers' material certificates are also checked and archived.
For each goods receipt, an inspection lot is created in SAP with the goods receipt posting. The batches of the material are recorded and assigned to the inspection lot. The scope of the audit is determined by the Quality Management specifications
Recording of inspection lots and results
In the inspection, these inspection lots are processed and the results are recorded. If all inspection steps are successfully completed, the material is released for production. The inspection results can be traced back in SAP at any time via the supplier number - material number - batch number combination.
If a specification deviation is detected, the entire delivery lot is blocked and a formal complaint
The dimensional inspection includes, for example, the inspection of wall thickness, diameter, center to face and form and position tolerance with the aid of a wall thickness sensor and a FARO measuring arm.
The surface crack tests
In surface crack test, the surface is inspected for cracks or flaws either by dye penetrant testing or by magnetic particle inspection, depending on the material.
The material quality certificates
Furthermore, the contents of the 3.1/3.2 material quality certificates are checked and imported into the SAP system.
To ensure material traceability
After receipt, these are checked against the order requirements and, if the result is positive, archived so that they can later be linked in the LESER Certificate for our valves.
Explanation of inspection certificates
Acceptance test certificate 3.1 is a certificate, issued by the manufacturer, in which he confirms that the delivered products meet the requirements specified in the order, stating the test results.

Acceptance test certificate 3.2 is a certificate in which it is confirmed both by an authorised inspector of the manufacturer who is independent of the production department and by the authorised inspector of the purchaser or the authorised inspector specified in the official regulations that the products supplied meet the requirements specified in the order, together with the test results.

The spring test and the spectral analysis
In the incoming goods inspection of finished parts, the structure of the inspection is comparable, but other tests are carried out, such as the spring test or the spectral analysis. For example, the spring test or also the spectral analysis is carried out to determine the alloy components in bar material. In addition, the following tests are carried out - mostly at the customer's request:
Casting defects
As part of the incoming goods inspection for castings, a random sample from each delivery is subjected to a visual inspection, a dimensional inspection and a surface crack test.
The visual inspection is an inspection of the marking, the shape and the surface condition.
The SQP Team
The SQP Team consists of qualified personnel who have Level 2 certifications for almost all examinations. In addition, the team relies on a rotation concept that ensures that the staff regularly switch between the two testing areas casting and finished parts and the different testing machines. This ensures a constant work routine and performance.
In order to stay up-to-date with the latest developments, LESER continuously invests in internal and external training for the team. This ensures that the responsible employees always have the latest specialist knowledge.
In addition, the trainees receive 4 weeks of training in the basics of the exam as part of their training.
Stay tuned to the LESER LinkedIn channel - over the next few weeks you will receive detailed insights into the scorecard process.
