CHALLENGES FACED BY THE MODERN LEADER

During my tenures as a Chief Executive I had to navigate through a diverse range of challenges.?

Those periods of adversity where invaluable in providing me with experience and insights that shaped my leadership style.

In my current role as a high performance coach at The Lonely Leader I have the privilege of working with leaders in a variety of sectors and a number of different countries.?

Naturally some are wrestling with very sector specific niche challenges. However there are a core set that I see most of the leaders I work with striving to find solutions for. I will articulate them in this edition of The Leadership Accelerator.?

1 THE RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION OF TALENT?

Finding and retaining talented staff is becoming increasingly difficult. This challenge has grown considerably post pandemic.


2. SUPPLY CHAIN DISRUPTION?

There have been a number of reasons that have created a perfect storm for supply chain disruption. Leaders have had to become increasingly agile to navigate through this disruption to their strategy and planning.


3. REMOTE WORKING?

As the world has emerged from a range of lockdowns it has fallen to leaders to determine their organisational policy for remote working and its associated impact on culture, productivity, staff recruitment and retention.?


4. DISRUPTION AND INNOVATION

Advancements in technology continue to evolve at a rapid pace. The disruption they are causing is testing many leaders as they strive to keep pace with their competitors.?


5 ECONOMIC UNCERTAINTY?

This is particularly prevalent in the UK with rising interest rates, inflation and the surging cost of living. The uncertainty makes it difficult to plan for the future and invest in growth.?


6 ETHICAL AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Consumers are increasingly demanding that businesses act ethically and responsibly, with regard to issues such as diversity, equality, inclusion,. They want to know where leaders and their organisations stand on social and political causes.


7 PERSONAL HEALTH AND FITNESS?

For too many of the leaders I work with neglecting their own mental health and fitness has become the default setting. I spend a lot of time supporting them to re establish the habits to redress this neglect.
