Happy New Year! I pray that everything is going well for you as we embark on a new year. I have chosen to participate in the 75 hard challenge and I am on Day 2. This is a challenge that is definitely getting me out of my comfort zone and is a true exercise to grow in mental toughness.
As I enter the new year, I want to take some time to share some of my thoughts about challenging yourself to go beyond your comfort zone. As a mother of 15 children, with 10 of them who still live at home, chaos is often a daily occurrence. However, I have chosen to not allow that chaos to stop me in challenging myself to reach for greater things. The current world conditions with this pandemic has taught us how to be flexible and pivot in society and with our careers. As we welcome 2022, I challenge you to create a new YOU to allow you to live a more fulfilled life regardless of what obstacles come your way.
My first book is reminding me about the inner power that I possess to reinvent how I want to show up in the world. I have found that in my journey that when I faced obstacles in the past, the first thing I would give up is my POWER and MINDSET. I often ignored my own inner voice and followed the opinions of others that did not resonate with my core beliefs. I began to take in fear and let it live in my head, conversations and interfere with the person I was designed to be. It is only after my journey with 13 years of depression and 3 hospitalizations that I have decided to walk in my own unique greatness. I want to encourage you that you have your own greatness within. As you approach this new year be an advocate for you, eliminate the distractions and the fears.
Fear is often with us but do we know how to manage it? It is designed to protect us from danger yet we often categorize EVERYTHING out of our comfort zone as life threatening. We allow fear to change us from the great people that we were designed to be. We often let fear dictate our life, dreams and relationships. However, in 2022 we can learn to put fear in its place and be an advocate for ourselves. I have successfully learned after my last hospitalization in 2016 to use my fear as fuel. I remember coming home from the hospital and beginning to think what were the signs that led me to that hospitalization. I went back and picked out all the triggers and set up boundaries for everyone of them. I decided that day that I would not be haunted by the idea of another hospitalization being a part of my future. I realized that I no longer could entrust my health and wellness to others, I needed to be the captain of my own ship.
Fear is a tool that many of us do not know how to use for our benefit. We usually have one response to fear and that is to RUN. A lot of our personal issues are often masked under fear. For example, I realized that I was great at starting projects but often had trouble completing them. I would lose momentum from all those great ideas and projects and struggled with understanding why. It began to be the reason for me saying NO to New Opportunities because I was afraid that I would not complete them. However, when I dived into self reflection, I learned that I was a people pleaser and I would leave my work to SHOW UP for the praise of others to feed my EGO and leave my work undone. It was often easier to blame others rather than to look in the mirror and take accountability for my own decisions. I now know that an unhealthy EGO can hinder my growth and happiness. My desire to heal led me on the journey of ever learning. Recognizing that I do not know it all has been very liberating. I have success because I am able to label information properly and not be paralyzed with fear. I am able to seek counsel, hire help or simply research information and keep moving on my journey of life. My passion now is to help other moms like me to navigate through life with a smile instead of stress. I reach them through my books, podcasting , speaking and coaching .
I have learned to substitute fear with strategy. Strategy is a key component of my success and consists of routines, systems and collaborations. I am challenging myself to do the hard things for 75 days. Building strength to face in my life what is already hard...such as a wife of 29 years, childbirth with 13 children (11 of which were natural with NO PAIN MEDICINE), step parent to 2 children, managing my day, advocating for my dreams and promoting good news when the media is often promoting what is bad. As a mother of 15 children, I choose to challenge myself to hard things so that I can have clarity, discipline, consistency, patience, understanding and above all wisdom when there is chaos. So I ask you to consider: In 2022, What are you CHOOSING to do to be a BETTER YOU? If you are interested in having a call so that you can create your strategy Click the link .
