Four years ago, I wanted to recruit young talents to carry out a project in Asia. I broadcasted an advertisement. 75 young people applied. I proposed them all the same challenge as a selection test:
? I want a strategic note to explain how you will manage to do it? ?
Only five applicants were motivated enough to make a proposal. 3 were relevant. If you want: ability and motivation, less than 5% of the applicants are effectively.
Provide a Business Plan
Recently, an executive came to see me. His project was about foreign investment. He was looking for a young talent to take care of this project. I have contacted 2,000 young people who applied to go abroad. I proposed them the following challenge: In exchange for payment, provide a Business Plan of this project to demonstrate your capability.
Only 5 applicants applied to this Challenge. Less than 1% of the applicants are committed in the project like athletes preparing the Olympic Games. For 99% of the applicants your project, your company’s project is like a walk on a Sunday afternoon.
Draw me a sheep
You are looking for an applicants who knows how to draw a sheep… so challenge them. Make them draw a sheep.
Be disruptive, non-conventional in your recruiting process.
You will save money. But above all, you will only recruit people who expand the development of your project instead of people who slow it down.
Motivation and ability are the two key words that you will find challenging your applicants.
The challenge
For several years now, with the team of EasyPass International we are committed to help young people turning globalization into professional opportunity.
You are a leader, executive or manager… You are the bearer of a project aiming to internationalize your company. Your are looking for a young, competent and motivated person to carry it out successfully. Let’s work together to organise the challenge which will reveal the talent you are looking for.

8 年If you expect people to get straight with an answer to major question for your company’s future (i.e. : strategy, Business Model, etc.) without being in position (i.e. already recruited) to leverage your current team’s capabilities this means that you consider that your team is not the “engine” it should be to achieve growth but require full external competencies. Why have you then built this team/company if it has not already in itself a significant portion of the solution to its future (i.e. : strategy, Business Model, etc.) ? So those who didn’t come back to you with a strategy or business plan were probably considering that you don’t really master what you are asking for and that is, including when asking an external consultant to do your job, that you won’t be supportive enough at the implementation phase !
