Challenge: Define a future tech job title
Recently, I've been trying to find a job title for the leadership role I seek, but I haven't had much luck. I'm confident this will be a critical business leader for at least several decades. If you're up for a challenge, I would love to hear your thoughts about such a role. In the spirit of design thinking, I'd like to start from a crowdsourced neurodiverse set of ideas.
I envision this role to be about organizational standards and governance, but focused on optimally integrating emerging technology into the culture and business architecture of an organization. There are elements of Enterprise Architecture in this role as it would be continually aligning and integrating business operations and IT. It would also lead with empathy, assuring an ethical and optimal use of AI and other emerging technology, positively and continually transforming an organization to remain competitive, both technologically and culturally. This role would also look at competition to stay ahead with differentiating new tech. It would also leverage design thinking methods to maintain open stakeholder communications and assure a flat management structure. This role would also lead innovation management and incentivize employee engagement in a culture of innovation.
To be fair, I asked ChatGPT 4 this same question, and while I like the job description, I'm not so keen on the job title (which shall remain anonymous for now). I will provide the job description that AI generated, below -- but I still would like to hear your ideas about the future role, job title, job description, and anything you think that I or my "AI Copilot" missed. I have purposely blocked out the AI generated job title "<unique_job_title>" as to leave that to crowdsourced creativity.
Please let me know what you think, and by all means have FUN with this challenge! If you have any questions or comments, please add them as comments so others may benefit.

Principal AI Innovator: Empowering Organizations with Holistic, Ethical, Human-Centric Tech Solutions
1 年According to Claude: Based on the responsibilities and qualifications listed, this sounds like the job title would likely be Chief Innovation Officer or Vice President of Innovation. The focus on leading enterprise architecture strategy, emerging technology adoption, innovation labs, and design thinking indicates this is an executive-level role responsible for driving organizational innovation. The ethical technology oversight also points to a C-level position. Some other potential titles could be Head of Innovation or Director of Innovation Strategy, but the scope of responsibilities described fits best with Chief Innovation Officer or VP of Innovation at an enterprise level. These titles encompass the strategic planning, change management, and stakeholder collaboration aspects highlighted.

1 年Interesting - this topic has been the fly in the ointment for a number of years...thanks for driving a dialog Joe. I'm gonna just jump forward to what I'd like to think will be the future workplace; one where complete simulation environments exist for organisations and their ecosystems and decision making is largely automated. Deviations from the accepted 'model' will be treated as value creating and a 'go' decision will rely on the parameters of the organisational risk model. The 'EA' of the future will need to manage expectations of the incremental moves needed to make this a reality, The skills you list above or are a startpoint..other capabilities will need to be incorporated... Anyway, enough of the pontification. How about - Transformation Director, Value Engineer, business orchestrator, Simulation and AI Leader? ??

1 年As other commenters have noted the role description diverges into aspects of leadership, design and implementation. I see it as an advocacy role that bridges the gap between business-centric IT governance and well-designed technology implementation. To achieve the needed impact I would trim away IT Operations and focus on the leadership, design and business operations impact of the proposed role. After the introductory Director/VP et al I would look for two powerful words for the title, one to represent the role as ethically driven an the other adjective being a single word conveying both Design-Thinking and Innovation Leadership.

1 年It's an exciting experiment, Joe. You could improve the results by assigning weight to each responsibility in the list. This will help you to zero in on the most appropriate job title. I see at least 3 different themes in this description: governance, innovation, and change management. They overlap in some areas in a Venn diagram pattern but may be grouped in separate roles, depending on the size and the culture of a particular organization. For example, innovation and change management in one role with governance managed by a different group (a fairly common scenario).
