This must be in the year 2011, I was seated next to the CEO in the car. The CEO liked to drive and that day the driver was not asked for. A new senior level hire had joined that week from Pune. The new hire was from outside the city and had shifted without family. The CEO was a local & we were returning from dinner that evening. As we dropped the new hire at the apartment gate, and turned around to head our way, the CEO quickly not knowing much of Marathi language, (which was the new hires mother tongue) asked ‘marathi mein kuch bolna hai usko’ (Tell me something to say in marathi).?
Chal Udya Bheytu (See you tomorrow) the CEO cheered loudly, waving to the new hire. The new hire with a smiling face waved back saying ‘ho’ (yes).?
In that moment I had a smile and felt amused, and yet years later as I pondered on the incident, could not help realizing the genuine gesture exhibited by the CEO towards the new hire. There we n number of instances like these which I had experienced with the CEO during my tenure there. This was one of the other multiple things where the CEO took interest to make the incoming person belonged and connect with the organization.
That moment then when I look back - was my brush with excellence!
