Chairman's Weekly Blog: Team Bonding, Exciting Weekend Matches, and Club Improvements

This past weekend, our first team enjoyed a well-deserved break and took the opportunity to arrange a team bonding session. These events are just as important as the games, allowing the players to get to know each other and build chemistry, especially with so many new faces in the squad this season.

The break came on the back of a tremendous 5-0 midweek win against Goole, securing our first three points of the season after two draws and a loss. This victory has given the team a much-needed confidence boost, and I’ve been emphasising patience all season. We've had a bit of a rebuild after some key players moved on to higher-tier clubs following last season’s near-promotion. This win also shows that the team is gelling, and I believe we’re only just getting started.

On Wednesday, our development team was back in action after a total rebuild under new management. Despite falling to a 0-1 loss at home against local rivals Bentley FC, I’m confident the team is showing enough promise to bounce back as the season progresses.

Saturday brought exciting news from our U18 girls, who wrapped up their preseason with a superb 8-0 victory over on the station pitch. We have high hopes for this team, and their hard work is clearly paying off.

Sunday early afternoon saw our ladies’ development team take on Retford Ladies, in the 12 noon kick off resulting in a brilliant 8-1 much needed win, and they continue to grow stronger with each match. Meanwhile, our first team ladies played out an exciting 4-0 win at home in front of a solid crowd at Oxford Street. It was great to see such strong community support for both teams.

Off the pitch, our grounds team has also been hard at work improving our facilities. This week, they installed new TVs in the clubhouse and digital menu boards, upgraded the lighting in the garage where our pitch maintenance equipment is stored, and improved the plumbing in our café build. The garage lighting upgrade also gave us the opportunity to tidy the space and list some surplus equipment on popular selling sites to generate extra funds for the club. They’ve also made plans to install a new ball retrieval netting system and continue with the perimeter fencing around the pitch, all important steps toward enhancing our club's infrastructure.

As for me, I’ve been busy chasing sponsorship deals, ordering kit, and holding meetings with club officials throughout the week, although a heavy work schedule has limited my hours at the club. Still, progress is being made, and I’m confident that both on and off the pitch, we’re heading in the right direction.

Thanks to everyone for your ongoing support. We’re building something special here at Rossington Main, and I’m confident that exciting times are ahead. Let’s keep pushing forward together.

Up the Rosso!
