Chairman's Weekly Blog - Missed Opportunity!

This week has provided a bit of a breather from the hustle and bustle of recent weeks, which has been a welcomed reprieve, truth be told. Our development side put on a good showing with a 3-3 draw against Dinnington FC on Friday night, a commendable result against a strong opponent. However, Saturday's chapter was a tale of disappointment, as our first team suffered a frustrating 1-0 loss to Ashby Ivanhoe in the FA Cup. Despite dominating the first half and squandering opportunities, we learned the hard way that football demands capitalising on chances.

The week saw our summer camps in full swing hosting around 70 young kids daily, from Monday to Friday. Amidst the joyful chaos, Monday marked the signing of fresh talent for our ladies' team, a step forward bolstered by last week's announcement of our new manager.

Although family commitments kept me away from Tuesday's training sessions, I did have a phone catch-up with our Director of Football. Thursday reunited me with the team during training, offering a chance to catchup with our physios and the first team manager. The week also saw me tackling the ever-present club paperwork, an essential but often less glamorous aspect of the game.

Amidst the administrative stuff, Friday was pretty much the same as I settled balances for the coach we've secured for the upcoming FA Vase competition. The evening also saw us hosting a charity game between Keepmoat Homes North and South, which also helped generate vital bar revenue, compensating for our first and development teams playing away this week.

As we gear up for the week ahead, I will need to take time to address club expenses, and review our financial situation then Tuesday evening I will be in the stands, cheering for our first team as they take on Maltby FC in a game we're eager to win. The week will crescendo with our Development team's home game against Staveley Reserves FC on Friday, followed by a tough face-off against Wythenshawe in the FA Vase on Saturday for out first team.

While our first team struggles with a challenging run, we are united in our understanding of the uphill journey following promotion. Our aim remains to consolidate this season, securing our league standing, and then setting our sights even higher. Each step forward is a lesson learned, and despite the roadblocks, we stand strong, striving to excel.

Thank you for being a part of our journey, sharing in our triumphs, and standing by during the tough times. Together, we march onward, pursuing the thrill and joy that football can bring.

Stay tuned for more updates and insights!
