Chairman's Weekly Blog: Battling Weather and Business Opportunities

The past week has presented a mixture of challenges and opportunities as we navigate the unpredictable world of football and club management. Adverse weather conditions affected our football activities, leading to the cancellation of games for all our teams this weekend, except for the first team which had a scheduled break anyway.

Our Development team had a rather contentious match on Wednesday at home against Yorkshire Main, resulting in a 2-2 draw. The game was dominated by discussions about the officials and their questionable decisions.

During the week, we dedicated time to reviewing our club's finances and settling invoices. Despite the challenges, we remain content with our current standing this season, even though adverse weather conditions recently have affected some of our attendances and therfore revenue.

Tuesday I took the opportunity to catch up with some of our dedicated volunteers over coffee. These volunteers play a significant role in the success of our club and it's always a pleasure to connect with them.

Wednesday was a game day for our Development side, and I provided my support to the match day duties after work. We also received a visit from a league official from the Central Midlands Alliance, who had positive feedback about our printed matchday program.

Thursday morning brought a quick visit to the club to oversee the progress of the exterior café build. Our dedicated volunteers were diligently working on the project, and I also arranged for a skip from our club sponsors, EcoPower Skips, to assist with the ongoing construction.

Towards the end of the week, I took a few days off from football to spend quality time with my family and kids since there were no games scheduled due to the cancellations. However, I had to address an issue that arose on Friday evening, which will also be a priority for the upcoming week.

A business opportunity emerged over the weekend, with a potential sponsor expressing interest in promoting their brand through pitchside boards and our social media content. A productive call took place on Saturday, and we're hopeful that we have convinced them to support our club.

In the coming week, my agenda includes addressing the issue that emerged on Friday, attending Tuesday night's first team cup game against Wombell Town FC at home, and catching up with club officials and volunteers.
