Chairman’s Blog – A Week for the Ladies!

This week, the spotlight shines firmly on our ladies’ teams, who delivered some outstanding performances across the board.

Saturday morning saw a very different result for our U18s compared to last weekend—this time, they made light work of their opposition with a dominant 11-0 home win, including 10 goals of their own and an own goal to cap it off.

That winning momentum carried into Sunday, where our ladies’ development side secured a 3-0 victory at home against Staveley Miners Welfare, followed by a thumping 6-0 win for our ladies' first team on the main pitch against Brinsworth Whitehill Girls FC. That’s now three consecutive weeks we’ve played them, and after conceding 24 goals in those matches, I imagine they must be getting pretty fed up with us by now!

Unfortunately, Saturday was a day to forget for our men’s teams. The development squad suffered a 3-1 away defeat to Phoenix FC, while our first team fell to a 1-2 home loss against Campion. As they say, to win football matches, you have to take your chances, and unfortunately, we just haven’t been clinical enough in recent games. The only positive to take was seeing our main man, Ross Hannah, back among the goals, netting his 10th of the season after a dry spell.

Midweek saw further frustration as we lost at home to Hallam FC in a match full of controversy. With two red cards and one of the worst refereeing performances I’ve seen in a long time, emotions boiled over both on and off the field. After reviewing the video footage, we have submitted various appeals and complaints, as a 1-1 draw would have been a fair reflection of the game. While either team could have won it, losing to a penalty that should have been a free kick in our favor was a tough one to take.

Off the field, it’s been a busy week catching up on paperwork, reviewing stock, and placing orders—including next season’s kit, following our recently secured sponsorship agreements. In addition, I managed to agree on a back-of-shirt sponsorship deal, and this coming week, I have a meeting to discuss the sleeve sponsorship package with a potential new partner.

It’s fair to say we’ve have also been short-handed at the club this week, but everyone has stepped up to keep things running smoothly. We also hosted the final session of Club Doncaster’s darts event on Friday evening, which was a great success, and we look forward to welcoming them back for more sessions in the future.

Looking ahead, I’ll be catching up with the men’s first team gaffer as we now turn our attention to next season. I want to get planning underway as soon as possible so we can hit the ground running next year. We are also looking at a couple of potential player signings, which may or may not come off this week, but any business we do now will be with next season in mind.

As always, thanks for your support and for taking the time to read my updates. See you at the games!
