Chairman’s Blog: A Thrilling Finish and Festive Spirit at Rossington Main
Rossington Main FC
Doncaster’s highest ranked Non-League Football Club in the Northern Counties East League Premier at Non-League step 5.
As we approach the festive season, there was a palpable sense of anticipation in the air at Oxford Street on Saturday for our first team’s clash with Knaresborough Town. In the grand scheme of things, this was a must-win game for us to stay on track with our ambitious end-of-season targets—and what a game it turned out to be!
After a challenging first half where Knaresborough capitalised on a penalty to take the lead, our lads demonstrated incredible determination. The second half saw us regroup, recalibrate, and ultimately triumph. Ashley Worsfold’s 83rd-minute goal brought us level, sparking jubilant scenes among the home supporters. And as the clock ticked into the final moments, Paul Sherburn delivered the knockout blow with a stunning 90th-minute winner to secure back-to-back victories for Greg Young’s side. It was a heart-stopping finale that epitomised the grit, teamwork, and never-say-die attitude of this group.
This game was particularly special as it marked Brad Grayson’s 100th appearance for the club. Joining the prestigious 100th club is no small feat, and Brad’s contributions on and off the pitch have been integral to our journey.
This week has also seen me working closely with Greg Young to strengthen our squad further, and I’m delighted to welcome two new players to Rossington Main.
?????????? ????????????, a quick and talented left-sided attacker, and ???????????? ??????????, a young midfielder, have both joined us from national league north side Buxton FC. A huge thank you to Buxton for their support in facilitating these deals. Both players bring energy and depth to our squad, adding even more competition as we push forward in the season.

Before kick-off on Saturday, it was also a privilege to see players and supporters come together for a fantastic cause, presenting gifts to Club Doncaster Foundation’s Children in Need at Christmas. Spearheaded by our very own ladies’ player Phoebe Snedon, this initiative reflects the generous spirit of the Rosso family. These moments remind us of the power of football to bring people together and make a difference beyond the pitch.
The excitement didn’t stop at full-time. A lucky player of our Christmas football card also walked away with the grand prize, adding a bit of festive magic to their weekend. It was also fantastic to spend time catching up with supporters, players, and volunteers in the bar after the game. The camaraderie and community spirit that define Rossington Main were on full display, and it was the perfect way to round off a memorable day.
As this is my final blog post now before Christmas, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who makes Rossington Main FC so special—our players, coaching staff, volunteers, supporters, and sponsors. Your dedication, passion, and hard work are the heartbeat of this club.
We’ve had an incredible year filled with challenges, achievements, and memories, and I have no doubt that 2025 will bring even greater success. With your continued support, we will keep building something truly remarkable at Rosso.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Let’s come back in 2025 with the same energy and drive to achieve our goals. See you at Oxford Street!
Up the Rosso!
