Chairmans Blog - Happy New Year!

On behalf of everyone at Rossington Main, I would like to wish all our supporters a very Happy New Year.

Naturally, we had always aimed to get 2023 off to the best possible start and with that said I was delighted that we followed up on our 7-1 home victory to Athersley Rec on New Years Eve with another fantasic 6-1 win over Shirebrook at home yesterday. (2nd?January) and thrilled with our main man ???????? ???????????? netting back-to-back hat-tricks for the team and who is now on 19 for the season and has scored eight goals in six days!

At the start of the season it was always in our thoughts to try and add a proven goal goalscorer to the squad and when Ben Hunter our first team manager first discussed the possibility of potentially bringing Ross Hannah the former Bradford City and Grimsby Town striker to Rossington Main I was absolutely delighted at this opportunity to maybe have a chance of signing a player of his calibre and after meeting Ross and his family a few times I knew this would be a perfect fit and a signing that would really push us on to achieving our goals.

Ross was ultimately sold on our project and also with the opportuntity to work with Ben and lend his vast expirence and support to developing our young squad and we managed to get the deal done and the rest they say is history.

Off the field 2022 presented us all with many challenges. High inflation, higher interest rates and spiralling energy costs which have hit so many households so hard and while we are also not immune to these challenges we have kept our match day entry prices down while others have increased and in addition have also not passed on all the increases in our stock via our bar prices and we have been able to do this because our match day attendances have been on the increase.

Our fans have been brilliant in 2022 and as we go into 2023 I urge you all to come out on match days, first team, second team or our newly formed girls team and roar them on down at Oxford Street as your support is so vital to the teams and to the club and while we have had some fantastic attendances in 2022 we want to kick on and keep growing the fan base into 2023.

We now enter 2023 in a good position in the league, and we are on track to achieve our season’s goals and results in the past two months have been excellent and our determination and focus is on ensuring that we maintain our current form, league position, and get stronger as we move forward into 2023.?

As our manager has made clear in recent weeks, the second half of this campaign will be tough, and there are no easy games in our league, but the passionate support of our fans is always appreciated and never taken for granted - and is a vital ingredient in ensuring we deliver on our objectives for the remainder of the season.

To the supporters who have stood through the wind, rain and shine of another year in the life of Rossington Main Football Club, our sincerest thanks and I am sure you would agree there have been many highs, along with some genuinely encouraging and exciting signs of a team and club ‘on the up.’ And we shall do all we can to keep it that way.

Looking ahead into 2023 we are very much looking forward to our women’s team joining a league campaign for the 2023/24 season and we are also currently exploring the possibility of adding an over 35’s team.

Finally, I would like to thank you for your continued support.
