Chairman’s Blog: A Busy Week On and Off the Pitch

It’s been another eventful week at Rossington Main FC, both on and off the pitch, with plenty to reflect on from the past few days.

The weekend started with our U18s making a big statement in their league campaign. They secured a commanding 3-7 victory away at Brinsworth Whitehill Girls FC, a result that shows the determination and quality of this talented team as they continue their fight to become league champions.

Saturday brought a mix of results for the club. Our Development Side put in a battling performance but unfortunately fell to a narrow defeat against Blidworth in the Central Midlands Alliance Premier North. Goals from Jack Ogley and George Noble showcased their efforts, but it wasn’t quite enough on the day but we will regroup and our form will turn for sure in the coming weeks.

The main event of the weekend saw our first team return to competitive action after a three-week break. Greg Young’s team secured a hard-fought 1-2 win away at Parkgate, with Harry Middleton and Brad Grayson providing the goals. This match was particularly special as it marked Ross Hannah’s 100th appearance for the club. Joining the Rosso ?? club with a staggering 76 goals, Ross is a true legend, and this milestone was a proud moment for everyone at the club.

Sunday saw our Ladies teams in action. The Ladies Development Team had a heavy defeat away at Barnsley FC, while, the Ladies First Team delivered a statement win, beating a strong Just Football side 4-0, further cementing our reputation as a team to watch this season and our promotion chase.

Away from the pitch, I’ve been as busy as ever. This week, I’ve caught up with our dedicated volunteers, club officials, and several of the managers, and I’ve also been preparing for an important meeting with a potential new main club sponsor on Tuesday.

I’ve reviewed the accounts with the Vice Chairman, and we’ve also seen progress from the grounds team, who have tackled a long list of maintenance tasks following the recent bad weather. They’ve tidied up the entrance to the ground, removed an old gate and an overgrown tree, fixed frozen pipes in the toilets, and replaced a rotting fire door.

We’ve also made some significant changes to the catering setup at the ground. All food offerings have now been moved to our cafe, and the main bar kitchen has been cleaned and reorganised as an overflow facility. This reorganisation has simplified things for supporters, making it easier for them to view and order their match-day food.

Off the pitch, we hosted a successful darts event in partnership with Club Doncaster on Friday evening. It was a great night that brought in some additional revenue for the club.

Midweek, we also arranged a friendly match for our mens first team against Stocksbridge, a team fourth in the league above us. The game was an opportunity to get match fitness back into the players’ legs and to test some fringe players and trialists. The team delivered a resounding 4-1 win, and the performance certainly gave the gaffer some selection headaches, but having strong options is exactly what we want as we head into the second half of the season.

Looking ahead, this week will see more meetings with potential sponsors and, weather permitting, some essential pitch maintenance to address the wear and tear from recent games and poor conditions. On Friday, we’ll host the second week of our darts competition in partnership with Club Doncaster, and we’re expecting another great turnout.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Rossington Main FC. Let’s keep the momentum going as we work together for another productive and successful week.

Up the Rosso!
