EU Delays CSRD Reporting Standards by Two Years

On January 24, 2024, the European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee approved a 2-year delay for adopting sector-specific and non-EU company Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) reporting standards, moving the deadline from June 2024 to June 2026. Companies still need to follow sector-agnostic reporting requirements.?

Nearly Half of Companies Still Using Spreadsheets to Manage ESG Data: KPMG Survey

According to this recent KPMG Survey , nearly half of large companies are still stuck in spreadsheets for ESG data: are you one of them? Here are some key findings from the KPMG report:

Products Impacted by the EUDR

In response to the need to stop the depletion of forested areas worldwide, the European Union has approved the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) to ensure that consumer goods — such as soy, coffee, cocoa, wood, rubber, beef, palm oil, and their derivatives — entering the European market do not contribute to global deforestation. To achieve this, companies must conduct due diligence to verify the origins of these imported or exported products, proving they have not contributed to deforestation or the degradation of natural ecosystems.

The data on use of spreadsheets to manage ESG is not surprising. The six months of research I did into the apparel industry supports the KPMG results. The key thing to remember it's not just ESG data being managed with spreadsheets - it can be many other aspects of how the business is run.
