C.E.T + S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y
Nikolaos S. Moraros EdD, MSHSA, MSN, RN, PHN
Nurse ? Educator ? Researcher ? Advocate ? Founder of S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y A Prelicensure Theoretical Academic Framework.
As I reflect on my journey within nursing education, I realize that we must create an academic environment that supports all stakeholders (Students, Faculty, Staff, and Administrators). My dream for nursing education lies within the following quote by Kofi Atta Annan:
"Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family."
When you know that you have developed something that can benefit many others within the nursing education family, it is only natural to share this knowledge and tool to facilitate knowledge sharing, collaboration, problem-solving, decision-making, and improving the overall student didactic and hands-on experience.
Today's review is to re-introduce S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y. and to share with you a great Clinical Evaluation Tool (C.E.T.) that is aligned and threaded with S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y. as its main framework supported with the B.S.N. Essentials, and Q.S.E.N.
I created S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y., a theoretical framework, to bring desirable results toward improving and increasing our nursing student’s N.C.L.E.X. testing performance and overall academic experience. I have utilized the S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y. framework in all levels of undergraduate licensure nursing education programs from LVN to A.D.N. to B.S.N., as well as in the LVN to B.S.N. programs and the Accelerated B.S.N. programs. The S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y. has been tested time and time again and has always proven to provide the desired outcomes: adhere to evidence-based practices, increase students' critical thinking, and ensure that our students are safe and competent healthcare members.
S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y. stands for:
S = Standardization of the nursing curriculum.
I = Introduce/Integrate the N.C.L.E.X. blueprints should be introduced.
M =Modernize: Nursing education must be modern and adaptable for 21st-century nursing students. Nursing schools should?decrease technological barriers?by providing an educational experience on the go, especially as we navigate toward N.C.L.E.X. Next Gen.
P = Practice: Nursing schools should provide students with multiple practice academic didactic and hands-on experiences to enhance their critical thinking.
L = Lasting: Providing a curriculum experience will have a long-lasting positive effect and decrease burnout.
I = Integration & Interdisciplinary Academic Experience: Nursing schools should provide a multidisciplinary approach that will allow and include an interdisciplinary level of providers (OT, PT, PA, R.N., LVN, Respiratory Tech, Nurse Aide). This approach may have the desired effect along with early simulation experience that will further facilitate students to become well-versed and adaptable within the healthcare arena.
C =Critical Judgment:?Increase student critical thinking through various in-didactic and hands-on assignments, case studies, and clinical scenarios.
I = Implementation:?Nursing Educators must implement new teaching and learning strategies to minimize the potential teaching and learning barriers within our nursing programs and student body.
T = Transparent:? All academic student learning outcomes need to be clear, concise, and effective from the first day of every course and every assignment due.
Y =Yield: Y is the last letter and, as in any recipe, depends on the execution and implementation of all previous steps.
S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y is a nursing curriculum framework development, implementation, and delivery method that yields proven outcomes. S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y aims to result in higher yields in education. S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y. will translate into a higher increase in the percentage of the N.C.L.E.X. passing rate and overall student satisfaction.

Now that we have reviewed what S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y stands for and what it is, I would like to introduce another tool that will help you to yield great and meaningful clinical experiences with your students.
STEP - 1:
This entire Clinical Education Tool (C.E.T.) & S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y has been designed around one main concept. The epicenter of any nursing program and its success must be determined and researched around the Student-Centered Experience.
STEP - 2:
This Clinical Evaluation Tool is based on eight distinct phases. This C.E.T. was established based on the S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y framework (Specific, Standardized, Introduce, Modernize, Practice, Lasting learning, Integration, Critical, Implementation, Transparent, and Yield). The B.S.N. Essentials, Q.S.E.N., and the TBON DECS 2022 are threaded and drive the outcomes from each clinical evaluation category.
Rubric:
This process and this article will help to give you a fresh and unique approach to decode what nursing school administrators and nurse educators can accomplish within nursing education.
Creating a national and global discussion and collaboration with a single devoted mission to improve and maintain our scope of practice will further galvanize the future of nursing education. This framework's strategies and processes have demonstrated that compatibly diverse and complex college/university systems can significantly improve academic quality, faculty excellence, institutional diversity, equity and inclusion, and student success.?
We are part of a different era of nursing practice and nursing education.
This fresh and new approach will continue incorporating all possible partners to become a single collective body that will further enhance our profession and the next generation of nursing students.
I look forward to your comments and input.
Nikolaos

2 年Thank you Nikolaos S. Moraros EdD, MSHSA, MSN, RN, PHN for providing this framework! I am fortunate enough to have been trained by a Faculty that implemented a very similar framework for the concepts based curriculum and I learned then how very important it is to have a process or framework to follow for best outcomes! What you've outlined is exactly what I've been doing with my students and clients and I think all Nurse Educators should utilize this framework so we can fill the knowledge and skill gaps and produce a much more capable Nursing workforce and Profession. Thank you for sharing this and for all of your contributions to the Profession thus far!

2 年I hope that the introduced framework S.I.M.P.L.I.C.I.T.Y and C.E.T can be found useful and easy to integrate within your curriculum especially for your clinical evaluation approach. If you have any further questions please let me know. Nikolaos

2 年Dr. Moraros, this article is wonderful. I am fairly new to academia and I have been looking for a framework that best fits my teaching philosophy of spiraling versus scaffolding. I love this. I am already employing many of these concepts in simulation but as I mentioned I did not have a fleshed out framework. Thank you!
