CESG And SSDs - No Approval What Is The Cost
On March 15th 2016 Blancco received a US Patent for verifiable wiping of SSDs this followed previous EU and Finish patents but it is still the case that CESG have not approved this method as verifiable. Many UK customers still use CESG standards as their guideline for IT security and follow these to the letter without deviation which is understandable but when these guidelines become outdated due to changing technology shouldn't we think again. Lets face it if every London Black Cab driver followed exact guidelines he would still be driving around with a bale of hay in the back of his cab. The world has changed and most current devices utilise SSDs or Flash storage and this increases daily, away from single devices many mass storage devices will now utilise more up to date methods such as SSDs. RDC and Arrow Value Recovery are the worlds largest supplier of ITAD services and in the UK in particular provide services to leading public sector bodies and financial organisations all sticklers for CESG standards but what is the cost? Without CESG approval all SSDs have to be removed and shredded devaluing the parent unit immensely or in the case of an array making it practically worthless. The financial cost to the circular economy is vast, this with the cost to the environment makes us wonder if it is time to question the importance of CESG approval if it is unable or unwilling to keep up to date with technology. The simple question is can your organisation afford to throw away money needlessly when there is a solution?

8 年The fact is the wiping process is verifiable as per the US and EU patents, the point is the CESG are either unwilling or unable to test and organisations are hung up on an outdated standard and it is costing the economy and the environment. Technology is moving rapidly and everybody needs to keep up. If anyone needs a sample of a verified SSD wipe by Blancco 5 please let me know.

8 年Or can you afford to take the chance of selling equipment with an SSD that might not be completely wiped? Depends which industry sector you represent I suppose.
