CES Project Snapshot - Nationwide Data Center Client

CES is currently servicing a national provider of wholesale data centers and colocation services with a U.S. footprint of over 3 million square feet. Phase I of our work included the completion of an Environmental Compliance Needs Assessment for site-specific Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans as dictated by EPA Oil Pollution Prevention rules (40 CFR Part 112). The goal of Phase I was to classify upwards of 15 nationwide data centers in terms of oil-storage capacity (backup power) and SPCC applicability as well as to provide a "snapshot" summary of current compliance status for all sites.

Phase II of our project will include the development and P.E. certification of full SPCC plans for some data center sites, assistance with self-certification plans for those that qualify, and updating existing plans for other sites. We are excited to enter into Phase II this summer as we look to start scheduling site visits and facility inspections.

As the need for data centers continues to grow across the country to accommodate the ever-increasing flow of data, CES stands ready to assist from an EHS compliance perspective. Some of the additional services that we provide to the data center industry include:

  • Air permit compliance plans, emissions (stack test) protocols and implementation
  • Integrated contingency plans (ICP)
  • Permitting - land use, tanks, generators, air emissions, wastewater and stormwater discharges
  • Site and/or building suitability surveys and assessments
  • Property environmental assessments/investigations (Phase I & II)
  • Stormwater management plans
  • Industry-specific environmental health & safety training
  • Site inspections and recordkeeping
  • System and facility security and emergency provisions assessments
  • Regulatory compliance audits
  • Indoor Air Quality assessments/management
  • Development of regulatory compliance matrices (identify elements, due dates, responsible parties, calendars) that can be utilized independently or integrated into a corporate or a site environmental management system (EMS).
