CES 2024: Where Innovative Technology Touches Multiple Industries

CES 2024 meant many things to many different industries. Here, some of our Endavans reveal which solutions caught their eyes and which insights they think can help transform their chosen fields.??

CES 2024 was more than a showcase—it was a celebration highlighting the glass ceilings that innovative technology can help leaders break within their industries. Endavans from multiple fields of expertise were in Las Vegas for the event earlier this month, each taking away different highlights and insights for their respective industries.??

Here, SVP, Western Sales, Media Steve MacMillan; SVP, Account Group Unit, Media Jay Johnston; VP of Automotive and Mobility Innovation Michael Gross and Delivery Partner, Technology, Adrian Roman share the thoughts that resonated most with them:?

1. What was the coolest solution you saw at CES? What made it stand out to you as an observer and an industry representative??

SM/JJ: “The transparent?LG?TVs were a mind-blowing display stacked roughly 30-feet-high and across.”?

MG: “The coolest tool, in my view, [was] the fully autonomous excavator from Hyundai. Without a cab, it looked like a big robot with a shovel. The coolest solution, in my view, is the fully integrated, user-experience-focused dashboard of the Mercedes "Egg" and the CLA concept car with AI/ChatGPT fully integrated "Hello, Mercedes."?

AR: “.lumen showcasing its glasses that allow blind people to navigate the world more easily. It’s a fantastic example of how technology can bring positive change and empower humanity to push and break boundaries by expanding the range of applications for “bleeding edge” technology.”?

?

2. What was the most interesting observation or insight you heard from an industry colleague (from a discussion, breakout session, etc.)? What made it stand out to you??

?

MG: “Discussing the various concepts of software-defined vehicles (SDV), it was obvious that there are a lack of add-on solutions which actually create value for a customer/user of a vehicle in a sense that he or she is ready to pay an extra subscription or fee for it.??However, I found that there are some services or ideas, especially within the area of commercial vehicles, that actually create a tangible value, like the Smart Agriculture System from John Deere.”??

?

AR: “One of the most interesting trends at the moment is the mixing of technology solutions across industries, an example being payments in automotive companies. Technology companies are broadening their reach to cover more and more of this growing market, and this is bringing immense value across all industry verticals.”?

?

3. Endava is so people-focused in its processes and ideal outcomes. How will some of the solutions you saw impact the human element of your industry????

?

SM/JJ: “We attended multiple sessions about fan experience and athlete/team performance.?I feel like in-stadium/arena experience will greatly improve over the next 5 years, especially around crowd control, waiting in line for concessions and in-game personalised data feeds (e.g., tracking your favourite player, betting on who makes the next basket, etc.).? Also, using camera tech and AI to measure team/athlete performance will become a necessity to remain competitive. Those same tools will make it very difficult for a talented athlete to go undiscovered.”?

?

MG: I believe there are two important topics which will have an impact on the way people will consume mobility in the future:?

  1. The SDV will enable people to use mobility exactly in the way it fits their personal needs. Let it be owning a car and keeping it much longer, actually increasing the value by additional services purchased, or new functions being released by software updates or by subscribing or renting a vehicle to share with others supported by digital solutions both in and out of the car. Keep in mind: In Europe, more than 50% of licensed passenger vehicles are licensed to some sort of fleet?company rather than to individuals. This trend is increasing.?
  2. Digital services will improve the circular economy (i.e., the lifecycle of mobility?products from raw materials over usage to recycling with end-to-end traceability and optimisation and the intelligent use of EV charging will improve the efficiency of traffic-related energy consumption. All of this will help?reduce our industry’s significant carbon footprint.?

?

AR: “Obviously, the human element is central to the technology industry. Ultimately, all the innovation that is characteristic to the industry serves the purpose of enhancing and improving everyday life for people, be it with more automation, expanded capabilities or new opportunities. As a global technology services company working with clients in so many industry verticals, Endava has a pivotal role to play in bringing the human element of technology into the spotlight. Our values and our people are pushing us to step forward every day with this objective in mind.”?

?

4. If you had to describe this event and what it says about the future of your industry in one word, what would it be and why????

?

SM/JJ: Inspiring.?Incredible how many brilliant ideas and brilliant people are together in the same place at the same time.?

?

MG: “This event wasn't meant to be an automotive and mobility show. However, it became clear that mobility is on people's mind. The future of the mobility industry will rely on digital solutions, incorporating predictive technology, AI and data analytics to deliver a sustainable customer experience.”?

?

AR: “’Vision’ is probably the word I would choose. Everything happening in the industry, and everything showcased at CES is guiding the industry and the larger global business community toward a more powerful future where technology will continue to enhance our capabilities and enable and push us to develop faster and better. CES and the technology industry are showing us what’s next and where we’re headed.”?

?

5. Is there anything else from the event that stood out that you’d like to discuss???

?

MG: “Having been to many fairs and events across Europe, it was striking to me that almost everybody on this event, all the way up to C-level executives, were very open to chat, contact and communicate without any barriers. So, it looks like attendees, speakers and exhibitors understood unsaid that collaboration is key.”?

?

AR: “I was amazed to see the magnitude of this event, the number of companies present and the tens of thousands of people from all across the globe participating. It shows technology really is the driving force of change and the opportunities it brings are innumerable, just waiting to be discovered.”?
