Certifications in Scrum What's Your Journey?

At the beginning of this year, 2018, ScrumAlliance upgraded the standards of the CSP program so that the curricula is more comprehensive and rigorous for the professionals being better prepared to address real work challenges and offer practical solutions to serve the needs of their organisation.

As Certified Scrum Master, I already had in mind to jump into a course sooner rather than later, as personally I find that it really helps to extract oneself from the day to day and retrospect. As an Agile professional it is key to constantly Inspect and Adapt.

The progressive course model offers a staged, two-year journey that allows participants to choose an educational track that improves core Scrum knowledge, builds skill sets, and provides the necessary tools to evolve as an Agile practitioner, from Scrum foundations to advanced practice. - ScrumAlliance.org

With the news of the updated paths, I've embarked myself to a Advanced Scrum Master course. Being such a new certification it wasn't easy to find available one even in London as many educators proposals are still under review or even submitting course applications to the ScrumAlliance.

I found a spot with Geoff Watts and Paul Goddard masterclass, where I learnt a lot about myself and I have tons of take aways. The different style of how Geoff and Paul approached this course allowed me to to do so. It is well worth it.

In a nutshell is composed by some (1) pre-work to cover foundations and experience on Scrum as a good refresher prior the face-to-face sessions (2), going over 2 full days with plenty of real life scenarios, techniques and practice exercises. To conclude there is some (3) post-work to be completed which involves some research and further thinking (with the help of Geoff and Paul) to forge some extra key concepts for what a Advanced Certified Scrum Master should be.

During the 2 face-to-face days I really enjoyed the visual representations/graphics used to help explaining some of the concepts, and only couple days ago I came across this post I thought to drop it here: How To Hold Better Meetings With The Help Of Graphic Facilitation

Last Friday after successfully completing the 3 sections so I am now officially a A-CSM. I've found the process very beneficial and met great individuals too. I will certainly encourage everyone (as any organisation) to always keep learning to keep up with the future.
