Certification is a Myth

When i started my career , every third person i meet will be a Microsoft certified engineer . I was happy to meet them and work with them. I was even more happy to be a part of the certified people crowd after i did my Microsoft certification . Later i realized i have never used the concepts i read for the certification in my day today work and never even came as a glance when troubleshooting the issues. The actual learning came from my work experience

Nowadays i hear/ meet lot of certified people and no more fascinated about it.End of the day it is not going to be useful in the real time

The fact is everyone is aware of "how they get certified" in few regions and its an added number in the organization but doesn't help the real time

One note i see in most of the organisations " We have certified people in the technology" and customers know the actual fact :-)

Keep learning and that helps more than the paper with the product logos :-)

It does makes you to feel like this when your views are limited to those certs which are common & are not achieved with years of practice and understanding that comes from day to day activities. Probably you should start to take a look at the certifications which are not very common and can only be achieved if you have proper understanding from basic to advanced. And that will help you to feel that there are legendary certifications which cannot be termed as Myth!!

Industry certification acronyms up the wha-zoo are only helping the talent acquisition industry become lazier and less effective at hiring. They're the only benefactors.

All certification does is buy you a conversational opportunity to be as good as you would be without it. If you have it, it doesn't qualify you, it qualifies the the question of your knowledge behind it. My certifications were difficult to get, but my use of the knowledge within their jurisdiction is far harder and time consuming. I got certified so I could talk about THAT.

Achieving Certification is far more valuable than "Being" Certified. In many cases to get the opportunity to gain the experience, the certification is an important qualifier. Then the experience does indeed become the most valuable asset.
