Certificates vs Certifications

Let’s, talk little bit about certificates & Certifications bodies at the HSE field?

I can see so many confusions arise in the mind of the safety professionals who are working at field related to the meaning of certificates & certifications ,what are the steps to go from lower to upper levels either in studying courses to get certificates or what is the sequence steps to escalating certifications level safety professionals.?

Let’s start by BCSP certifications?

BCSP is a certifications body in USA which is authorized to award ASP&CSP

If you have three to four years bachelor degree plus TSP (Traditional safety practitioner), then you will be eligible to apply for CSP directly and skip ASP?

If you have three to four years bachelor degree only, then you will be eligible to apply for ASP first then after getting certifications, you can apply to CSP certifications

If you get CSP certifications, then you are eligible to apply CMIOSH – Charter member of IOSH which you can say it is equal to Master Degree.

There is another course Qualifi level-7 is like a master degree, the course duration is 18 Months?

If you get Qualifi level-7, then you eligible to apply for Grade-IOSH & TSP, once getting those two then you will be eligible to apply for CSP certifications

CSP certifications will give you eligibility to apply directly to CMIOSH (Master degree)?

If you have OTHM Diploma, then you will be eligible to apply or affiliate member of IOSH

When you get OTHM Diploma, then you will be eligible to apply for Grad-IOSH.

Next step you will be eligible to apply for CMIOSH (Master degree)

Then you will be eligible to apply for either CSP or CFIOSH (PHD- Doctorate)?

1. NEBOSH Diploma level -6 Diploma approved by Proqual -UK

2. OTHM Diploma level -6 Diploma approved by Proqual-UK

3. NVQ Diploma level -6 Diploma approved by Proqual -UK

You have to understand that all below titles are only certifications not a certificates?

1. ASP – Associate Safety Professional?

2. CSP – Certified Safety Professional

3. CFPS – Certified Fire Protection Specialist?

4. BCRSP – Board of Certified Safety Professional – Certification body at USA

5. BCRST – Board f Canadian Safety Technician – certificate body -Canada?

6. TSP – Traditional safety practitioner?

7. CIH – Certified Industrial Hygienist?

1. It requires practical experience to obtain it

2. You can get it after an evaluation process

3. If you have this certification that is means that you have a certain level of competence and experience

4. A list of industry best practices

5. Getting this certification means that you hold degree name that you can add after your name in linked in or whatever?

6. Holder of this certification always undergo through continuous process of learning and sharing after obtaining the certification?

7. This kind of degree is Professional degree and not linked to higher academic scores

1. Cours certificates and it is suitable to beginners or fresh people in the safety career and anyone who wants to get it

2. You can obtain the certificate after attending a training course

3. If you are certificate holder that is means that you attended a specific course

4. The content of the course is based on training objectives

5. The course certificate name is usually mentioned in the study or training part of the resume

6. People who went on courses to get certificate usually stop learning after they get it

7. This course certificate can be an entrance to higher academic studies or degrees
