‘Disastrous For The UK’: How The MPs’ Pension Fund Abandoned Britain’s Stock Market

City AM

PLY: What a damning indictment of the UK political class. Even their pension fund doesn’t invest in UK stocks. Allocation to UK stocks has declined by 92% since 2017. This is a disgrace: just 2.3% of the total equity portfolio is in UK equities. if anybody ought to have their fortunes shackled to the future of the UK, it’s the MPs who (allegedly) ‘govern’ it. Then again what does this say about the London Stock Exchange Group that despite always proclaiming its great proximity to the Prime Ministers of the past generation, the LSEG has seen MPs' pensions leave the London stock market?

BITCARNAGE

The Trumpy one is on a roll right now?—?he looks as if he has a great chance of winning back the US presidency despite being convicted in a New York court recently. His big shift in recent days has been to go from crypto cynic to messianically endorsing Bitcoin et al. However, there’s a catch and it’s the core MAGA protectionist doctrine.

Thus the daily Beast notes Trump, Former Crypto Skeptic, Is Going All Out To Win The Bitcoin Bro Vote. DJT’s Truth Social post noted “VOTE FOR TRUMP! Then Trump notes “We want all the remaining Bitcoin to be MADE IN THE USA!!! It will help us be ENERGY DOMINANT!!!”

Caps aside, I have no idea what the energy comment means BUT the point about dividing BTC geographically according to mining could be as big a problem for the crypto V1.0 world as Trump not endorsing crypto previously. Arguably worse, as clearly the Trumpian worldview fundamentally ignores the notion of implied globalisation in the Bitcoin and broader cryptocurrency world.

This reminds me of a few years back when there was a vogue that banks were eager to get into Bitcoin. However, they were very wary, AML and all that of buying potentially tainted BTC and given you can see where your BTC comes from it was?—?they believed?—?a good argument to make ‘virgin’ unused BTC which had been mined from impeccable sources. That didn’t come to fruition.

#Srsly, how do we treat an American mined BTC under this Trump doctrine which has since lived in Europe? Or China? Or, heaven forfend a pariah state such as Iran or North Korea.

OF INTEREST

As always, a review of interesting reading to provoke thoughts and consideration… Not sure we agree with much of it….but it’s thought-provoking!

“But corporate America has long been stumped trying to find a more elusive expiration date: How can a company know when it's time for a CEO to go?”

PLY: Frankly I think there is nothing worse than a crusading CEO. They ought to lead not inculcate? This is a technocratic fantasy that management can boss the proles around I fear?

PLY: The very notion of McKinsey telling CEOs how to lead strikes me as a perfect contraindication to effective management.

PLY: It’s a good dinner party conversation for the weekend - which CEOs would you automate and why?
