Nepal-UK Friendship Celebrates 100 Years of Enduring Alliance

In a grand gathering held at Singha Darbar, Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud honored the remarkable 100-year alliance between Nepal and the United Kingdom. He praised the 1923 treaty, which brought the nations together when many others fought to break free from colonial rule. This treaty, Saud stressed, was a symbol of Nepal's independence and equality among nations.

Saud proudly highlighted the UK's pivotal role in Nepal's progress, providing support in aid, trade, tourism, and investments. He spoke of the substantial growth in their relationship over the past century, mentioning economic partnerships, trade, tourism, and the strong ties between the British Gurkhas and the Nepalese people.

Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal emphasized how Nepal's global status soared after signing the treaty, especially with the UK establishing its first embassy in Kathmandu. Lamsal underscored the UK's significance as a primary partner in Nepal's development journey.

British Ambassador to Nepal, Rob Fenn, noted how the friendship treaty shielded Nepal from foreign control, highlighting Nepal's strategic position between the booming economies of India and China. Fenn advocated for Nepal to reap benefits from the progress made by these neighboring giants.

The event was graced by esteemed personalities like National Security Advisor Shankardas Bairagi, Chief Secretary Dr. Baikuntha Aryal, government officials, ambassadors, and representatives from various diplomatic missions in Kathmandu.

Their presence underscored the respect and celebration for a resilient and prosperous friendship enduring through a century.

As a proud Nepalese British chef, I have the honor of melding the culinary tapestries of Nepal and Great Britain, celebrating the richness of both cultures through the art of food. Infusing the vibrant flavors, spices, and culinary traditions from my Nepalese heritage into the diverse influences of Great British Kitchen , my kitchen becomes a nexus where cultural harmonies resonate. From crafting delectable momos inspired by cherished family recipes to reinventing classic Great British dishes with Nepalese flair, love to sprinkle "Sichuan pepper Salt" Timure Salt to my Fish & Chips, every creation is a testament to the beautiful fusion of these two culinary worlds. Through my dishes, I not only serve flavorsome meals but also weave a narrative that celebrates the shared experiences, conversations, and mutual appreciation between Nepal and the majestic heritage of Great Britain. Each dish is an embodiment of my pride in both Nepalese roots and the inclusive culture of my adopted home, showcasing the remarkable unity that food fosters between these two nations.
