Centrica wins Oil & Gas UK 2016 Awards by field testing groundbreaking well abandonment concept from Interwell.

On behalf of Interwell P&A - I would like to congratulate Centrica who just won the Oil & Gas UK Awards 2016, in the category “Business Innovation and Efficiency (Large Enterprise)”

The winners in each category were presented with their awards at an evening ceremony in Aberdeen on Thursday 3rd November, where over 450 people from across the oil and gas industry gathered to celebrate their company and individual achievements.

Centrica took the Large Enterprise Award by supporting an onshore trial of a radical new technology for well abandonment.

Interwell’s groundbreaking P&A concept create an impermeable barrier by melting all the well components, cement and to a certain extent rock formation around them to reinstate the caprock.

The recent onshore trials in Alberta, Canada, demonstrated that this technology could potentially reduce abandonment costs in the North Sea by more than 50 per cent.
