Centre Tells Supreme Court Process To Consider National Heritage Status For “Ram Setu” Underway

The Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta, informed the Supreme Court on Thursday that the Ministry of Culture is in the process of evaluating the potential for granting 'Ram Setu' national heritage status.

The bench issued an order confirming that SG reported that the procedure was in progress within the Ministry and authorized Swamy to submit any additional documents or correspondence that he desires.

In recent months, the Centre's move to grant 'Ram Setu' national heritage status has been the subject of much debate and discussion. The Supreme Court's Thursday hearing is a significant step in this direction. There is no doubt that the Ram Setu is a significant part of India's cultural heritage. It is believed to have been constructed by Lord Rama as mentioned in the epic Ramayana.?

The decision of the Ministry of Culture to consider 'Ram Setu' for national heritage status is a welcome move. Such an evaluation will help to enhance the historical and cultural significance of the bridge. It will also provide legal protection to the bridge and help in its conservation. Furthermore, it will also encourage tourists and pilgrims to visit the bridge and help boost the local economy.?

At the same time, it is important to remember that granting 'Ram Setu' national heritage status is only the first step. The government should take all necessary steps to ensure that the bridge is not damaged in any way. This includes ensuring that any development projects in the area do not adversely affect the bridge and its surroundings.
