OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 21, 2023) – The Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) announced Tuesday that Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity will be awarded $2 million from the Oklahoma American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant program to partially fund the development of Habitat’s newest affordable housing neighborhood, Cornerstone Creek.

?

Central Oklahoma Habitat Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland said the ARPA funding will be combined with the Christian-housing ministry’s funds to help pay for Phase II of the development, which will include 450 affordable and energy-efficient homes to be built on the 160-acres at NW 150th and Morgan Road in far northwest Oklahoma City.

?

“Cornerstone Creek is part of Habitat’s ongoing work designed to find solutions to the lack of affordable housing in the greater Oklahoma City area,” Felton Gilliland said. “We believe Cornerstone Creek will offer a fresh start for hard‐working individuals and families who aspire to become homeowners. We are grateful to our state legislators and to the OWRB for administering the funding.

?

“If all goes as planned, we will begin building the first of 91 houses at Cornerstone Creek by late January.”

?

Felton Gilliland said Central Oklahoma Habitat has built more than 1,091 affordable homes for limited-income homeowners in the greater Oklahoma City area since 1990.

?

“Creating a new affordable housing development of this magnitude from the ground up is one of the biggest challenges we’ve encountered at Central Oklahoma Habitat,” she said. “Attaining the financial resources for Cornerstone Creek through the blessings of grants and donations is fundamental to fulfilling the future promise of Cornerstone Creek. Hard-working individuals and families deserve a decent place to call home and we are grateful to all our donors and supporters.”

?

The Oklahoma ARPA grant program is funded by the U.S. Department of Treasury and was appropriated by the Water and Wastewater American Rescue Plan Act grants program.
