Funeral for a Friend

By Admiral James G. Foggo (ret.) MSC

On Monday, I had the honor of attending the funeral of my next-door neighbor, Captain Bill “BA” Arnold, USN (Ret.), a distinguished naval aviator, RH-53D pilot, squadron commander, and veteran with over 26 years of service to this great nation.

Bill’s career spanned from the Vietnam War to the conflict in the Arabian Gulf. He was revered by his friends and squadron mates, both senior and subordinate, including my colleague VADM Kevin Scott, my classmate “Bubba” Turman, and the CEO of the Navy League, MCPON 13 Michael Stevens. Bill continued to serve in the defense community for many years before resting his oar in Old Town Alexandria.

Today, at Arlington Cemetery, we honored a fine naval officer, accomplished naval aviator, husband, father, brother, and American patriot. We will remember Captain Arnold this Veterans Day and forever after.

RIP, Bill.
