I dedicate this piece about a phenomenal human being and global icon to my daughter, Andra Mihaela. To me, my beloved, you will always be the greatest rockstar. Happy birthday, I LOVE YOU.
Let’s talk about Celine Dion.
Not just the powerhouse voice, the icon, the legend.
But the woman. The human being behind the glossy pictures in the magazines.
Recently, in the middle of battling a rare and debilitating neurological condition called Stiff-Person Syndrome, she had the bravery to share her struggle with the world in a documentary called “I am Celine Dion”.
The documentary includes a few very difficult-to-watch scenes. I was speechless at her courage to share these scenes with the world.
I broke into tears watching Celine go through a seizure.
And it brought up so many painful memories because my daughter had many seizures. She suffered so badly. They were always shocking and scary, leaving me with a sense of powerlessness and fear that is impossible to express in words.
I have countless videos of my daughter during her illness and I am unable to watch them, although I keep them safe on my computer. I can't watch them because I feel like I will instantly break into pieces and lose my mind if I try to. It’s that painful.
I never showed them to anyone out of respect and love for my daughter’s privacy and memory. To me, she is the greatest rockstar and the ultimate badass, with a kindness and love that would have healed the world if allowed to flourish and grow.
Looking at Celine, I see a lot of what I saw in my daughter. Maybe that’s the thing with exceptional humans: they tend to have similar vibes and behaviours.
Celine shares one of these types of videos of herself with the whole world.
That takes an unspeakable amount of courage. It also feels like she does it because she wants to share her struggle with her fans and it also feels like a cry for help.
She definitely gained my love and respect.
There she is, lying on her couch, an IV drip in her arm, not dolled up, no spotlight — just real, raw, and totally herself.
And what is on her mind?
Her fans.
Her fans! Not her own pain, not the medical hurdles she faces every day, but the people who’ve loved her, supported her and cheered her on through it all.
She didn’t want to disappoint them by cancelling shows, and you could see the regret in her eyes.
“It’s not hard to do a show,” she said. “It’s hard to cancel a show.”
Now, that’s something else. That’s next-level commitment.
In her toughest moments, she worries about letting us down. This genuine care and empathy goes beyond mere words.
It’s soul-deep, bone-deep, real-deal humanity.
Celine Dion doesn’t just walk through life. She leads with heart.
“They pay a lot of money around the world to come and see our shows. I feel like an apple tree. People are in line, and I give them apples, which are the best ones. And I shine them. And they all leave with a basket of apples.
Vulnerability Is a Power Move
Celine then said something that hit even harder: “I think I was very good. I think I had some stuff that was amazing,” she managed through tears. Here she is, reflecting on her career, her performances, and her entire life’s work while she’s flat-out fighting just to get through each day.
But you know what? She’s right. She was amazing — and she still is.
To come out and share that in the middle of her battle, that is power. That’s what makes Celine Dion more than an icon. That’s what makes her an absolute rockstar.

And let’s be clear: she’s not crying because she’s weak!
She’s crying because she’s given so much to her art, her fans, and her life’s work and is feeling the weight of that responsibility. Her vulnerability doesn’t take away from her strength; it adds to it.
In that moment, by sharing her pain and her regret so openly, she reminds us all of the strength it takes just to be real.
A Badass Through and Through
Celine doesn’t play by anyone’s rules. And she said something at one point that made me laugh through the tears I’d cried seeing her with the IV drip in her arm earlier.
“I walk the shoe; the shoe doesn’t walk me,” she said with that bold, undeniable spark that makes her — well, Celine.
And that’s why we love her. She’s a warrior who knows her worth, who walks through life with that unshakable sense of self, even when her body seems to be punishing her.
I mean, how can you not love a woman who lives by that mantra? “I walk the shoe; the shoe doesn’t walk me.” Pure badassery.
It’s this audacious courage that makes us root for her, that makes us want to stand up and cheer — even if she’s not on the stage.
‘There’s no mistake on stage because there’s humanity, bonding, emotions. And you forget your words, and you panic for a second — and out of the blue, they start to sing it.” Celine Dion
Strength in Empathy and Selflessness
What makes Celine a true legend isn’t just her voice or her music.
It’s her soul, her kindness, her ability to connect with people even when she’s struggling herself. Here’s a woman who’s suffering in ways most of us can barely imagine, yet her first thought is, “I’m so sorry to cancel.”
Celine Dion isn’t just an icon because she’s a phenomenal artist.
She’s an icon because she shows up with her whole heart, her whole authentic self, and she does it with honesty and grace, even in her most vulnerable moments.
So Here’s to You, Celine, from human to human
Celine, you are more amazing than ever. You’re the definition of strength, grace, and unapologetic badassery.
Your courage, empathy, and authenticity make you more than just a star. They make you a hero. And you’ve earned every bit of our admiration, our love, and our respect.
So here’s to Celine Dion, the legend who isn’t just an incredible performer but a true, genuine, awe-inspiring human being.
Thank you for showing us what it means to be strong, real, and caring. You are a rockstar in every way!
I will end here, although there is much more I could say about how deeply watching this documentary touched me.
Maybe the thing that touched me the deepest is the fact that Celine spreads love around her everywhere she goes. It’s just an unmistakable vibe she gives off.
I always look carefully at the way people react around someone who is in the spotlight. Their reactions tell us just as much about the person in front of the camera as the person’s words and demeanour.
There’s a lot of love around Celine.
And it’s a very well-deserved one. I just can’t imagine it being otherwise. Because that’s the energy that becomes her.
“If I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl. But I won’t stop.” Celine Dion
Darn right. Love you, absolute badass!
