Exploring Celebration Grid

Exploring Celebration Grid

I love this sentence of Tim Harford: “The three essential steps are: to try new things, in the expectation that some will fail; to make failure survivable, because it will be common; and to make sure that you know when you’ve failed”.

During the study and experimentation of the Celebration Grid it immediately captured my imagination!

This useful tool was born within the "agile" context and is used in "retrospectives"  to help teams evaluate the effectiveness of the work carried out and direct them in the development of useful ways to better undertake the next steps of the project in which they are involved. As you can see in the follow picture, the cerebration grid consists of 3 steps, graphically represented by 3 columns to be filled in, which guide us in analyzing the experience under study from 3 points of view: 1 – Mistakes; 2 – Experiments; 3 - Good Practices.

This tool is very powerful, that’s why I decide to use this practice. There are different interesting areas, but my preferred on is the experimentation area in which to discover the news and opportunities! Experimentation is an important training ground and can lead to failure. How ready are we for failure? The human being does not like to fail, but failure hides an incredible reserve of potential and, if combined with perseverance, great discoveries. But above all, how to make failure possible? How can we make our context safe, so that we can really make a mistake and then start over?

This is the great challenge. During my next workshops, I’ll experiment with partecipants this safe environment to find the real reasons of safety!

As facilitator, I know I love experiments. I think this is a good starting point!

I was impressed by how useful this tool is. We can learn from success and failure. I think the one of good feature is that we can learn most when we experiment. ??
