Celebrating young achievers through 2023 Ran Kekulu Scholarship Award Ceremony
As we move forward in our journey of social responsibility and nurturing the minds of our future generation, the Bank of Ceylon (BOC) recently conducted the ‘2023 Ran Kekulu Scholarship Award Ceremony.’ This event was not just a corporate gathering but a celebration of young minds who have shown outstanding potential and determination.
On June 28th, 2024, the Karaliya Convention Center in Kandy was filled with excitement and pride. The main ceremony was the pinnacle of a series of islandwide events, bringing together the brightest grade 5 students who hold BOC Ran Kekulu accounts.?
‘The Ran Kekulu Scholarship Programme’ is carefully designed to motivate and reward our young achievers. Here’s a glimpse of what these talented students received:
1. Top 2,000 students: Each of the top 2,000 students who scored the highest marks was awarded Rs. 15,000, a medal, a certificate, and a special gift. This is our way of acknowledging their hard work and inspiring them to aim even higher.
2. Provincial achievers: 11,280 students who surpassed the provincial scores received certificates, exercise books, and school bags. These rewards are intended to support their educational journey and encourage continuous excellence.

3. Foreign currency account holders: We also recognised 100 students with children’s personal foreign currency accounts, awarding them Rs. 25,000 annually.?
Special prizes and certificates were handed out through BOC’s large network of 655 branches, ensuring that each student felt valued and celebrated.
The event in Kandy honored 166 top-scoring students from the Central Province, where the Chairman, General Manager, and other members of the Corporate Management team were present.?
To qualify for these scholarships and grants, students must maintain a minimum balance of Rs. 5,000 or USD 250 (or its equivalent in a children's foreign currency account). This criterion not only promotes savings from a young age but also ensures that financial literacy becomes a cornerstone of their upbringing.
Education is a powerful tool for change. How do you think we can further support our young scholars in achieving their dreams? Share your thoughts and join the conversation in the comments below!
