Celebrating a Year of Growth at Sunnyfield's Sports Camp

This year marked another successful chapter in Sunnyfield's journey with the annual Sports Camp, an event that brings joy, camaraderie, and new experiences to clients. With participation from 29 clients from Allambie and 33 from Mt Druitt, along with the incredible support of volunteers, the camp was a testament to the commitment to fostering connections and promoting personal growth.

The Sports Camp is more than just an overnight stay; it is a unique opportunity for clients to engage in a wide array of fun activities, make new friends, and create lasting memories. As Danyelle Dowden , Support Officer, noted, "We strive to make it bigger and better each year, listening to the feedback from clients and staff to enhance the experience for everyone involved. "This year, there was the privilege of hosting 14 overnight volunteers, including three parents from Mt Druitt, alongside nine volunteers on Saturday and two on Friday night. Their dedication contributed significantly to the camp's success, ensuring that every participant felt supported and encouraged. The impact of the Sports Camp resonates deeply with those who attend.

New client Ben shared, “I had a really good time. I loved the sugar glider and made new friends.” His experience reflects the core mission of Sunnyfield, which is to provide an inclusive environment where individuals can live, learn, work, and have fun. Looking to the future, there remains a commitment to offering participants and volunteers opportunities that challenge them to overcome barriers and explore new experiences.

Michael Elvidge , General Manager, emphasises this vision: “The Sports Camp will continue to provide a platform for personal growth and team bonding as we execute the mission of empowerment and inclusion. ”Feedback from participants like Ryan, who said, “It was fun, enjoyable, relaxing, and a bit challenging, being pushed to my limits trying things I had not done before,” and Christian, who remarked, “It was fun; I had a good time, seeing old friends and joking around,” reinforces the positive environment being cultivated.

As this year’s Sports Camp is reflected upon, there is a celebration not only of the memories made but also of the friendships formed and the barriers broken. Excitement for what lies ahead is palpable, as the aim is to continue innovating and enhancing experiences, ensuring that every participant leaves with stories to cherish and a sense of belonging.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Pharamacare's helping Hand Committee and all the amazing people who made the camp possible. Here’s to another year of fun, friendship, and growth at Sunnyfield!
