Bringing Your Medical Device Design to Life. Electrospun Material Development, Validation, and Scale-Up
Welcome to our new blog post.
We would like to celebrate this day that aims to draw attention to the importance of science in everyday life and its applications to improve the life of society.??Humanity is facing some big challenges - largely related to climate change and the significant increase in health conditions.?
The next generation of scientists, graduating from university, have the choice between basic and translational research for their careers. Regardless of the preference, it is important to understand the requirements of bringing a medical product to the patient. We acknowledge that this a difficult choice to make, especially if only ever being exposed to academic research. We want to provide new perspectives to students and draw awareness to design and development considerations for new medical products.?
Jake Edmans is a final year PhD student from The University of Sheffield. He joined the Electrospinning Company in May 2022 for a 3-month internship as an R&D Scientist to learn more about product development for human use.???

Combining our experience in material science, biology and chemistry with our state of the art electrospinning equipment, we provide our customers with the future of stent coverings. Through direct deposition of the fibres onto the stent or braid, we can achieve excellent encapsulation whilst our pre-spinning process ensures bonding of the metal to the electrospun textile.
Selective choice of polymers offers flexibility in finding the balance between low friction during deployment and resilience to tears during crimping.

Do you know The Electrospinning Company process?
We support the development of your medical device concept through to the market.
Our first step is to listen to your design input requirements and compile a target profile for the concept or desired product. A short feasibility study is usually required to be able to compile a development plan. It may then be necessary to evaluate different raw materials and manufacturing approaches to match your target product parameters in the pre-design phase before ‘freezing’ the material and processing parameters.
We offer a series of studies tailored to your needs supported by flexible business models:
? Concept Design
? Feasibility Study
? Pre-Design Control
? Design Control
? Manufacturing
Throughout the process we will communicate regularly drawing on technical, commercial, quality and regulatory expertise. Find out more.
