Celebrating World Mental Health Day: How Rock Security Solutions is Prioritising Workplace Mental Health

Every year, on the 10th of October, we come together to observe World Mental Health Day, a global initiative to raise awareness and promote mental health education. This year’s theme—Workplace Mental Health—is particularly timely for Rock Security Solutions as we continuously strive to improve the wellbeing of our frontline team.
At Rock, we know that mental health matters, especially for those in demanding and often high-pressure or high-risk roles like our frontline security teams. To support this, we’ve gone beyond the standard welfare procedures you’d expect from a security company and have taken a significant step by investing in Welfare Supervisors.
One of our Welfare Supervisors is Shiv, a long-standing member of our team, who expressed an interest in supporting mental health awareness, particularly in men. His role is critical, particularly as he works during overnight shifts—an important time when our frontline team may be lone working in high-risk locations. Shiv's primary responsibility is to visit our team members in person, offering a constant source of support to ensure that their mental and emotional wellbeing is safeguarded. Whether midweek or on weekends, Shiv ensures that everyone receives regular welfare visits, which can make all the difference for our team during these late hours.
While we already have robust welfare measures in place—such as regular check-in calls with management and lone worker monitoring via our TrackTik platform—Shiv’s role is an additional layer of support. His responsibilities extend beyond routine checks; he provides mental health awareness and support, offering on-the-ground assistance to team members, both on a scheduled basis and as needed. His role is to ensure that our employees feel seen, supported, and safe, mentally and physically.

Managing Director, @Alex Declercq, highlights the importance of this initiative, particularly for those working in difficult overnight conditions. He explains, “We recognise that overnight workers, especially when it’s dark and a bit miserable, can sometimes be overlooked. We have a duty of care to ensure that all our colleagues’ emotional and mental wellbeing remains positive. Of course, all levels of management conduct site visits, including weekends and overnights, but we felt it was pertinent to invest in a permanent ‘boots on the ground’ resource. The frontline team has responded very effectively to having peer-to-peer communication; we have found that they open up more to Shiv about issues they might be facing personally or professionally, rather than facing the ‘stigma’ of discussing such issues with a member of management.”
By having someone like Shiv who has first hand experience in the field, we have bridged the gap between management and the frontline. His role allows for peer-to-peer conversations, where our team members feel more comfortable sharing concerns that they might not otherwise discuss with management. This proactive approach helps us stay connected to the needs of our team, fostering an open and supportive environment that promotes positive mental health.
