Celebrating World EV Day

As mobility in Aotearoa New Zealand changes, we’re having to re-think what is required to keep Aotearoa moving beyond just traditional fuels to alternative energy sources like Electric Vehicles (EVs). ?

The uptake of EVs as a key mode of transportation continues to drive us in a new direction, both in terms of the energy and the infrastructure required to enable drivers to charge on-the-go. Overlaying this with the time for recharging in a world where people place high value on time, it makes sense to create a range of re-charging opportunities that suit EV drivers when they need it most.?

We know that EV owners, current or future, are looking for reliable and convenient charging solutions that suit them at home and on the road. That’s why we’re committed to expanding our EV charging network as we look to provide fast chargers at 20 percent of our retail sites by the end of the year. This includes our partnership with Red Phase to bring 200kw re-charging in Waiouru. This unique technology means that the EV on charge gets the right amount of power specific to the vehicle, giving customers the fastest and most efficient charge possible.?

Charging at home becomes crucial to that EV ownership experience, allowing the car to recharge during your downtime, so that when you’re ready to hit the road, your car is too. This is why we’ve launched our new electricity offer in partnership with New Zealand based home charging unit provider Evnex. The plan enables EV drivers to access three hours of free charging between 3am-6am as a way of making it even more cost effective to top-up your vehicle. ?

We also know that while purchasing an EV may save fuel costs, the upfront investment to install a smart charger may be a barrier for some to shift to an EV. It is for this reason we wanted to make that investment a little easier by offering an interest-free deal for the smart charger that allows customers to pay it off over 24 months.?

Why do this? Our commitment is to keep Aotearoa moving, and we need to adapt to how our customers move as we transition to a low carbon future. Our focus is bringing recharging solutions to market – whether that’s at home or on-the-go – to help our customers on their own journey. ?
